Hadda 85 GT. 302 stock bottom end with ported E7 heads WG1087 roller cam, victor Jr. 750 DP holley, 373 gear And long tube headers. Went low 7s (8th) and mid 6s on 200 shot. Up until round 2003(SVT Cobra) they were the cars to beat. They are the 55-57 Chevys of yesterday.
I'd try and get a more "up-to-date" camshaft profile rather than use the "Purple Shaft"(I assume this is what you refer to as ".509" cam). While they make decent power, we have much better now.
As for pistons, I do not like the KB's. I prefer a tried and true, dump it in and forget 'em, forged...
SOME of the later motorhome 440's were cast crank engines, and were never intended to go in front a 4-speed. Also, SOME, not all, but some STEEL crank 440's were also NOT BORED for 4-speeds in Motorhome engines. I have a 1974 440 out of MH, that is NOT bored and is a steel crank engine.
Haven't posted much here, but felt compelled. My hats off to you. I'm always willing to let someone know when they are building their own ride, when a job is well done. You sir, have done it in spades.
Just when you think you can fabricate, a thread like this comes along and humbles the hell...
Bigger Engine will make more power longer as it doesn't have to work as hard. A 550 HP 360? Ain't gonna live as long as a 550 HP 440. You haven't fully lived until you've seen/been in a 500 C.I. BB car on about 10 LBSs of boost, or a 200 HP shot of N20.
BB has been, is, and will be the best...
Yes, there used to be a company that made the little Plastic adapters. Could go down or up in size. I only have a couple left, but haven't seen them in a while.
The original AFB 4BBL carb had a small air horn. Contrary to popular belief, the "New" Eddy Carb's are NOT AFB style air horns, they more resemble the AVS style Carter, which has the typical Holley size air horn...
Exactly. Any 440 round here STARTS @ $500.00 Runable/rebuildable.
It doesn't matter if your palnting flowers in it, or firing it up with that cast crank, Your selling a whole engine.
Finally got the pinion Snubber figured out tonight and ran the Brake Hard lines, as well as replaced the rear brake hose.
The "516" heads showed up today as well..
Well, here we are diving into the Dana 60 rear from a 78 Dodge 3/4 Ton truck I'm converting to go under the '66...I believe I HAVE figured out a way to get a pinion snubber on one of these rears for the Exact "Factory look" clone...
Here is the "Open", or "Peg Leg" rear, with the cover off...
Ok, you asked for it....This is one I been working on for a little bit.
440, 4-speed, Homemade Dana 60 rear with 3.54:1 Trac-Lok.
Clutch pedals before, I thought I had taken one of them painted, but I guess not..
This is the stock 8 3/4 rear, "741" Chunk, with 2.76 Open..This will be...
