well she is running like a charm now. got rid of the speed demon and installed a thermal quad,new distributar and a voltage regulator after that no issues the ole man took it for a drive out to nenana thats 50 miles out of town and it only burned 2gallons of gas
we did replce it not because the gauge was reading hot but because it was the wrong one the timing was off it was dialed inat 10 should have been 8 well after wrapping the heads and changing the fan it is alot cooler and as for the balance resistor being hot were aware of that but it did burn...

cool thanks i am going to the shop now and will inform my dad. we also think it may be the headers they are riduclously hot cant even touch the firewall. the ole man picked a bunch of asbestos wrap so he will arap the headers also he is replacing the fan right now it has a clutch fan...
things we have tryed already
changed the balsnnce ressitor twice.coils 3 times,wiring looks fine.balance resisitor is super hot driving down the road and after about 20 minutes have to replace the coil to get it started again.
My da just put together a 340 in his 1973 plymouth roadrunner since sunday he has burned up 3 coils and the balance resistor is to hot we have replaced the voltage regulator and even tryed a new thermastat any ideas? were else should we look
