- engine warmed up to operating temp, mixture adjusted as best as possible, engine idling in gear.

The centri curve & total mech advance is the LAST thing you do.....
The First thing you do is get the idle timing correct. Failure to do this will result in the car not performing at it's best. One member has already told you his combo needed 60* at idle. Hint, hint.
I wouldn't use the MSD plug; it doesn't have a ribbed insulator.
The ribs extend the surface length from the terminal to the plug body. The increased length makes it harder for the spark to 'leak' away to ground.
Thanks for the reply. I do not see a problem with the contact patch moving further out on the lifter surface. The actual contact area is very small because of the lobe taper/crown on the lifter. It is so small that the oil gets squeezed out because of the high, concentrated load; the end result...
Post #11. Sounds like you have vac adv connected to a man source [ MVA ]. That is GOOD. But that often leads to quotes suçh as 'MVA didn't work for me', when the real problem is the MVA was not dialled in... MVA itself was not the problem.
