Thanks for the advice! For now at least, it's just a cruiser so I think I'm going to check the motor mounts and have the transmission looked at. I'm not overly concerned with "burning rubber" it just seems like the car is lacking some of the "get up and go" that it should have.
Thanks. Been trying to go through the car and figure out what needs to be done. I thought the motor might need work but I checked the compression and it's 120-125 all the way around. The transmission seems like it might be slipping a bit between 1st and 2nd so I think I'll look at that next and...
I've been concerned that the transmission needs to be rebuilt which might explain the low torque. Any recommendations on stall converters with a stock 318 with an edelbrock intake and 4 barrel carb?
I have a 67 Belvedere with a 318, 727 automatic, and a 741 8 3/4 with 2.94 gears. At a dead stop if floor it the tires don't even squeak, is that normal for 2.94s? Not expecting to spin the tires all day long but I figured I'd be able to get a little chirp from them.
I used one of those push on connecters and attached it to the round head on top of the oil pressure switch, it seems to work correctly now. The light comes on when I start the car then immediately cuts off. Hopefully I never lose oil pressure and find out if it REALLY works!
The issue turned out to be the fuel line. After replacing the fuel pump, carb, fuel filter, and everything else I could think of, I decided to run some rubber fuel line between the tank and the fuel pump. After spending a few hundred dollars replacing the expensive stuff it turned out I just...
I have a 67 belvedere with a 318 that came out of an unknown car, but according to the engine codes was built in late 1971. I upgraded to an electronic ignition, Edelbrock 1406 4 barrel carb, and an Edelbrock performer intake manifold. Do I need to adjust the timing for these parts? If so, how...
I have a 67 Belvedere with a 318 and a gas tank that was replace a couple of years ago. When I pump gas the pump stops every 15 seconds or so despite the fact that the tank is not full. I'm assuming this is some type of ventilation issue. Has anyone experienced similar issues? Any idea how to...
Any ideas about the gauge cluster issue? I'm going to try running a ground from the back of the left side of the cluster when I get home but beyond that I'm stumped.
The dome light almost goes off like it should, but the accessory light under the dash seems to work the opposite from the way it should. I assume the accessory light should come on when the door is open and off when it's closed. The car is a 1967 Plymouth Belvedere II. Two door with a 318.
When I close the doors the dome light dims and the accessory light on the underside of the dash comes on. This happens when the car is off or on. In addition, the temp and fuel gauges aren't working. Both gauges are on the left side of the gauge cluster. The speedo and the gauges on the right...
1972 318 LA with electronic ignition...
I just finished putting in an Eddie performer intake, new valve covers, and an electronic ignition conversion. The car has been sitting in the garage for almost a year while I've been redoing the interior, patching holes, etc.
When I try to start...
I think it's a greyish color but I'll have to double check. Some of the wiring looks like it was hacked together so I don't know if that's the original wiring.
It looks like there was a wire connected to the oil pressure switch. The wire is now just hanging there and the end is bare, no connector. I assume it was like this when I bought it. Am I correct in assuming that wire should be connected to the switch? If so, how is it supposed to be connected...
Thanks for the tip. There is a ground wire that bolts to the back of the cluster which I've checked a couple of times but I don't see any other grounds. Also, are there any specific grounds that I should check?
I did realize, however, that I forgot to put the steering column ground wire back...
The cluster is screwed into the dash but I still have these issues. One other thing to note is that the brake system warning light is also on, however the breaks are in need of a rebuild so that might be legitimate.
In an effort to fix the fuel and temp gauges I pulled out the instrument cluster and replaced the voltage regulator. Now I have some additional issues. The list of problems is below, any ideas?
Alternator gauge works
Speedo works
Fuel gauge does not work
Temp gauge does not work
Oil...
The battery and alternator were both replaced recently, the alternator seems to be charging the battery fine. I started the car this evening and let it run for a while. I drove around the block and it died as I pulled into the driveway and wouldn't restart. I unhooked the fuel line from the carb...
