Hey Mike, what carburetor is that? Looks nothing like any that I’ve seen on any 318 that I ever had. Mighty fine looking Polara, early Bs are my favorites.
This is the only picture I have at this time. I can get a better one tomorrow, but even in this picture you can vaguely see that the top part of the shifter angles away from the driver.
That isn’t the best fitting shift lever. I ended up bending the lever below the boot to the right because it rested against my leg. It needs to be straighter without so much offset.
I had my box and Saginaw pump rebuilt by Steer and Gear about 17 years ago. I believe it is the Sport version, much better road feel, no more loosey goosey stock feel. Feels like a modern rack and pinion setup. I highly recommend it. This is in my 65 Belvedere.
Larry, the person that never makes mistakes is the person that never does anything. What irritates the hell out of me are the mistakes that I can’t cover up. Measure twice, cut once? Bulls hit, I can measure a dozen times and still put the hole in the wrong place. I enjoy your posts.

Excellent start to a project. I’ve personally never heard of raised spindles, not saying that they don’t exist. Good luck to another Hoosier. I’ve got my 64 Savoy stripped and starting on some body work.
Most of the after market valve covers have no baffles in them. If you’re using a PCV system you will want baffles. Even if you’re just using breathers you’ll be better off with baffles to keep the oily film off your valve covers.
