If you have factory single stage paint, usually red, white, or black up to a certian year, and no failure just dull. Yes.
If clear is failing, No.
The OP had failing clear and I recommended strip to metal, epoxy primer, base and 2 coats of clear.
He hasn't commented on any of our suggestions...
Man, I love the cracked hyperutectic pictures.
Like I said, in my first post.
"All I could find with a 340 style dome were cast or hyperutectic, which I won't run."
The endurance motor I'm building has forged that are 550gr.
Back in the day, no repaint would be as durable.
Now, a good quality repaint can be.
The key for the best paint, is to have the total film as thin as possible
Bare metal, with epoxy primer sealer, base to hide and 2 coats of clear.
Obviously, repairs require primer surfacer, maybe filler...
Lets not confuse a Duster with a Dart.
A Dart is a good car. A Duster is a short wheelbase, long overhang tail swapper.
Great for drag racing, horrible to drive.
And yes I've tried to love one, several times.
The Dart was pure love, except being too small for me.
My duster from way back...
Motor out, put the car back in the garage.
Piston clearance you have with existing pistons will help determine new piston choice.
Are those sealed power 2316's not hyperutectic?
They will need more clearance and careful ring gapping. Weight is listed at 745gr, which is more than cast, which...
Thats why they call this an inspection tear down. If it was all rebuilt properly, you are inspecting, and replacing the improper pistons.
Unless there is funky wear, I would not change bearings. Your peace of mind might move you differently.
But measure rod bearing clearance. Your oil weight...
I have those pistons in several 340's. I wish they would make a factory style cast oversize in L+R and with valve pockets on one side only. At that cost, you might come in at or under budget.
A minor piston weight change probably won't hurt. As my machinist reminded me, "what does the oil, in...
3600 plus my fat *** @200 so comparable to you.
Yes, balancing costs but 72 low comp pistons are not necessarily lighter than 70 pistons.
I am not a fan of strokers. If I was building a truck, or a 500 caddy style motor, maybe. A low rpm torque motor.
Strokers with short skirts, no ability to...
I just went through this exercise. Well, not the wrong piston part, but getting the compression to match the cam.
First, roller is great, but converting an LA block to get full lifter covererage requires sleeving the lifter bores, but pushrod angle is still off.
So get a magnum block. But in...
Soo...many..
But keeping with the $300 mark
$20 67 273 dart 2dr
c bodies, many- $150 limit
Trucks + vans, up to $200
67 428 t bird $300
And a 70 barracuda 318 4spd $250, and I still got it!
I cut the bent rings off some 14" rallyes, and had some 62 14"chrysler (clip centers) wheels that had the adapter wheel bands to make 15x8's. They came on a 64 dodge truck with a 71 B dana of all things.
Knowing that the wheel barrel quality is so bad now, I thought I couldn't go wrong, even...
10" or 11"? I guess it doesn't matter till you get back.
Everyone thinks old cars are simple or easy and they are.
But not if you are young, or didn't work on them way back when.
I had a local guy who started out doing british spoke wheels, and was well known for fixing alloys. He first thought I was crazy for the minor stuff I wanted fixed.
I explained..., road trip, 100mph. I need straight.
I would go down with a pickup load( 30-40) at a time, and made a deal for a...
I would think you would be all over my offer, but maybe someone closer will give you one.
The swedging of the drum is to avoid the
elliptical nature of a drum not bound to the hub.
It's not much of a variable, how much clearance does a drum have sliding onto a hub?
Maybe 010" out of round...
And yet when you try to sell perfect wheels, blasted and primed, people compare your price to the garbage priced cheap.
Heck, I don't trust "new" repop wheels to be straight and hop free.
I have a right hand thread stud, factory drum assy. Just pulled it off the backing plate, so while its dirty, you can see the lining surface where the shoe protected it.
It is currently .040" oversize.
While a new offshore drum is only $51 from rockauto, you have to factor in finding studs...
