PSA on used wheels

And Coker owns Wheel Vintiques who makes reproduction cop wheels. Yeah, pretty piss poor for new. On Sunday I got some potential info on who might have the ability to straighten steel wheels. My old boss, bless his Portagee heart, has a friend who used to build custom steel wheels plus straighten them. Decent amount of business for him from the local dirt track. That guy sold the wheel bizz to a local dirtbag who in turn sold said bizz when he got in major league trouble with the state BAR. Got sold again, then at least two more times. Currently there is no one local. Stockton wheel had the ability to do it but they closed down. One other one I was referred to, who does quite a bit of insurance work for body shops, does alloy only. No steel.

I had a local guy who started out doing british spoke wheels, and was well known for fixing alloys. He first thought I was crazy for the minor stuff I wanted fixed.
I explained..., road trip, 100mph. I need straight.
I would go down with a pickup load( 30-40) at a time, and made a deal for a good rate by the hour, instead of the back then price of $20-30 a wheel.
He had a press with 2 bearing mounted cups that held the wheel, but allowed it to spin. He had some open mouth lever tools to grip the barrel and lip.
A wobble would get a jacking off the press frame.
A minor curb bump would take 1 minute.
A potholed chunk, with barrel wobble would take 3 minutes. And it doesn't even hurt a painted wheel.
I learned how to straighten wheels to the point that I can fix most problems.
Steel wheels are easy. Its amazing how far they will yield, and spring back.
Alloys are much trickier.
I am a serious wheel junky. One of several racks.

I won't toss the bent one after its changed out. Hopefully I'll find someone around here to straighten.

I had a couple of mopar rally wheels straightened at a place called Wheel Works Detroit. They are much better now. Not expensive, and fast service.

I cut the bent rings off some 14" rallyes, and had some 62 14"chrysler (clip centers) wheels that had the adapter wheel bands to make 15x8's. They came on a 64 dodge truck with a 71 B dana of all things.
Knowing that the wheel barrel quality is so bad now, I thought I couldn't go wrong, even putting all used crap together. Plus I could set my backspace.
They run out straight, but the inner bead has an 1/8" veritical hop. Outer bead is dead smooth. Its the same way they were one the old wheels I cut apart. I doubt with my L60's I will notice
