Sounds good thanks for the replies, I was just worried about how hard the upper hose is when hot, as far as the bottom hose I will have a look at it, would I be able to feel the spring inside when squeezing it?
Hi All,
My 440 73 Roadrunner seems fine and does not overheat and in fact with my 160 t-stat
it runs a little on the cool side. What i'm curious about is the upper rad hose gets quite hard
after being driven up to operating temp. I thought that perhaps the rad cap may need to be changed as it...
Update: I removed the the rad and it had in fact sprung a leak. This was a complete re-core 1 yr ago and was fixed under warranty. Now it's just a matter of finding the time to re-install.
My RR recently got really hot due to a thermostat failed in the closed position.
The radiator was re-cored last year.
I replaced the T-Stat but now I have a minor leak coming from the radiator area.
I have tightened all hose connections and the drain cock but it still drips after I shut it down...
Hi All,
What type of gear oil do I need for my 73 Roadrunner? and how do you change it?
I have had the car a few years now and thought being that I don't know the maintenance history I should probably change it.
Any recommendations appreciated.
Thanks
Hi Stegs welcome. I was in your shoes just 18 months ago and recieved a great deal of support form the guys here.
My 73 RR has a low compression 440 engine in it and I decided to wait on the full rebuild with the idea of hopefully getting to it later if required. (The engine was low mileage...
Hi All,
My 73 RR with a 440 runs awesome most of the time but strangely when you sit at the lights for a minute or two then put your foot down it pops and hesitates before it takes off.
It definitely seems that it is an accelerator circuit issue but it doesn't do it any other time other than...
Nice to see another guy from Calgary! I have a 73 RR that I just got back on the road last week. It also has a 78 440
but now has a cam, alum heads, headers etc that makes it a beast compared to what it was last year.
Update
An update on the Roadrunner.
It has 3.55 gears and the engine has good compression.
Currently installing a new cam, aluminum heads, headers and a 2 1/2" exhaust.
Transmission is being beefed up and adding a high stall torque convertor.
Carb will be rebuilt and the distributor will be...
Thanks, all I know is that the previous owner told me it was a 78.
Block number shows 4006630. Is there an easy way to tell what gears are in it?
Off the line is does have some jump, the tranny shifts quickly and by 60 mph
It's around 3000 rpm.
It's a bit of a guessing game when you don't know...
My 73 RR has a pretty much stock 1978 440 engine with auto and I'm guessing a stock rear end. It does have a dual plane manifold and an upgraded ignition. However it's a complete dog, I was expecting it to a least spin the tires and have some power. I have checked the timing, the carb is a...
Update, so I took the car for another ride and after about 20 min it ran fine with no hesitation.
I touched the carb and it is just warm. Is it because the new intake has the exhaust crossover blocked that could be the issue? If so is there a solution?
No it seems the same as before. The carb gasket didn't seem like it was in great shape I will pick up a new one to see if that helps.
Could that be it?
Hi all, I just installed a dual plane Intake and now the 440 hesitates badly when I hit the gas. Will I need to adjust the carb now? Btw it's a carter.
