I did this same swap in a '76 Duster and I didn't need to cut the drive shaft. Your results may be different depending if your drive shaft was a little on the long or short side to begin with.

If you wanted to swap, I believe the 8.75 rear ends that fit are not that expensive and not too difficult to find. You can use your 8.25 backing plates/brakes and shock mounts and that even makes the swap easier. Most of the time the drive shaft will work too, the 8.75 is a little longer in...

I'm much more familiar with A-bodies and small blocks. For sure them are HP manifolds? I'd go out and lift the hood and get numbers but right now it's covered in snow.. LOL
I have nothing against the 5.0 fox body. Pretty cool for their time. But I used to beat them with the 2.2 turbo 4 door Lancer's, Caravelle, etc. I could drop a 1/2 second for 3 bucks in the turbo cars, not even kidding. I'd buy 'em dirt cheap, put about 200 total into them and beat 5.0's...
