I have some heads for our 340 that have been machined and I want to lower compressor back to factory or below. Is their a rule of thumb for how thick a gasket has to be in order to lower compression considerably. I was thinking about putting a .075 compressed gasket on instead of thinner ones...
I need to get a air intake with a EGR valve system does anyone make one for a 340 motor? I am running a carter 4 barrel and all is original except purple cam shaft. Running around 10 to 1 compression and it spark knocks. We suspect bad gas but have tried 100 octane low lead from the local air...

I have a problem with the car jumping into neutral. I have checked the fluid level and it is fine no leaks. I have a extra deep pan on this transmission.
Any ideas on what is the problem internally?

I think the transmission is a 727 though.
I have gotten premium fuel but that just means more alcohol in my area. I just does not help.
I have tried a e85 and regular mix that a racer told me he had been using to gain octaine but that did not help any either,
What id the best octane booster?
I have had problems with spark knocking with the bad gas we are getting in missouri. I put bigger primaries in and that solved the knock at crusing speed but it still does it when you get into the throttle. Do I need to open the secondaries up more?

the front tire measures 7.5 inches wide of tread and the back measures about 9 to 10 inches of tread width.
Sidewalls are 5.5 inches high frot and back
