I just noticed this while searching something else, but yes, I have the cheap CAT stainless steel 1.7:1 rocker arms on my 505" stroked 440 with stealth heads and a Comp hydraulic roller cam. I only have a few hundred miles on them, and I plan to inspect them now that it is winter.
I tried them because I got them cheap on a closeout sale for $199/set. The body had valve stem alignment tabs that would hit the retainer, so I had to grind the tabs off the body. A friend told me they had issues with the adjusters and to anneal them before using them. After that I chased the threads of the adjusters with a die, and the bodies with a tap. The threads in the rocker bodies were tight before chasing the threads. These are bronze bushed with a roller tip, so not too much to worry about, and my spring pressures are mild, I think less than #400 open pressure?
Yes I have. You'd better have the right valve spring on it or you will be lofting the valves and beating up the seats. A good stiff pushrod is also needed, not your summit racing junk, but a good pushrod like a manton or smith brothers. Chevy guys have access to the good ratios like 1.8's to 2.0's...
