I had no drama with the ring supplied with tank (or was it the one that came with the sender?!)..
I believe I got one with both tank and sender. The lighter ring should work but the census says they haven't always supplied enough pressure.I had no drama with the ring supplied with tank (or was it the one that came with the sender?!)..

Look at the picture of the rusted old sending unit. The rubber ring is laying there. There is only 1/16 to an 1/8 of noticeable contact that was made to seal that sending unit to the tank. Not much room for error.
Running good now.
My problem was vapor lock and not just on really hot days. A Carter elec fuel pump, 1/4" return line and this fuel filter solved that! -

The 1/4" nipple has a 0.060" restrictor built in and should be installed so 3rd nipple is the highest point in order to bleed off any vapor (gas). When there is no vapor, the fuel return flow isn't high enough to affect fuel pressure. I used a Carter elec pump that needs no extra regulator. So the fuel filter acts as the return back to the tank? If so, what regulates the fuel pressure?
