Time to get the housing and pumpkin media blasted. 3C outside.

Media of choice.

Everything ready to go. Air line for blaster and my fresh air hood and it's feed all in place.

My "cabinet" for the day.

Pumpkin almost done.

Pumpkin all cleaned up and ready for clear coat.

Housing up next.

1/2 done. I should listen to my own advise, as I said I'd never do another one and I'd take them up the road to the full time blasting guy.

Both ready for a wipe down, then clear coat on the pumpkin and semi-gloss Black on the housing tomorrow. Also need to make and weld on a brake line tab before I paint.

Looks about right.

Hole drilled to plug weld into place.

Break out the $200 MIG.

Pumpkin clear coated.

Despite the block off plates, housing full of glass media. Probably a good thing, as washing it out the old oil residue was full of metal as well. Toilet brush to the rescue.

Best degrease medium I've ever used, 100LL AV gas.

Axle housing being cleaned out.

Works great.

Power swirl.

Six hours later and I finally have it hung and degreased for paint!

I've had no issues with Tremclad and zero primer on bare blasted metal. The Dart still looks like the day I painted it some 2 years later. I'm talking gallons of liquid, not spray cans.

Wayne's home brew on 80% gloss. It's not the quantities...

Weapon of choice is almost 40 years old now.

Gun still works great.

Safetied the old sled trailer with the left over paint.

Why I can't have them fancy epoxy coated floors!

She came out pretty nice, filled 90% of the pits to boot.

Shop heat cranked up and she can bake.

I did the hocus pokus Tremclad mix too, on my “red” car. Over 20 years ago.
1 part flat to 1 part gloss which gave me semi gloss. Couldn’t find semi-gloss last century around here.

I just painted my engine K-member with the actual semi-gloss Tremclad.

I used the small 3" foam roller to apply.

Back at it, time to lose the rear axle assembly.

Wheels off..

What we're running under the rear. P275/60R15's. There's actually room for 295's once the new rear axle housing goes in.

Cooper Cobras.

Up and ready to remove everything rear axle assembly.

My big $125 puller purchase in action on the tapered axle drums.

Brand new brake components.... oh well. Hopefully someone wants the OE rear axle complete.

The "temporary" tire rub fix coming off. The old air shocks off my Bee from 1979!

Got worried about U joint size, but it is indeed the same as the unit I have going in!

Need to clean up the springs and then throw the new axle housing into place.

Down and dirty.

Drive shaft holder. Need some under coating or paint to blend that new 1/4 floor into the rest.

Baffles me on the 2.5" head pipes and 3.0" tail pipes that the last guy installed... but it's quiet !

Pretending I'm 16 again. Restoration with a wire brush, 2 cans of rubberized undercoating and some semi gloss Tremclad. This car is our "driver"!

Direct Connection superstock springs. P3690454 passenger side with zero wear plates or zinc interleafs. (which I find weird)

Drivers side P3690455 spring with wear plates.

Stainless exhaust all covered up to undercoat and paint the leaf springs.

Cardboard on top of the mufflers and ready to go.

Some day I'll learn to wear a "nuke suit" when I do this ****. Had to shave my beard off when done, need the Wife to wipe my face with lacquer thinner it appears as well! LOL

Tomorrow I'll throw the "new" rear axle housing up into place.

I put a 340 short block in the trunk of my 80 R/T on afternoon. I would not want to try that now.

Well I took the other one out in one piece... but yah housing only, then start adding parts.
