I'm just impressed they are not walking around with their pants halfway down their asses and referring to each other as mother f*@%er.

Looks it, but it wasnt. The Kennedy assasination was still fresh in the mind. We were just getting involved in Vietnam. The british invasion was in full effect. Not that that was a bad thing, but I'm sure the older generations were none to pleased. My grand parents included.

thanks Meeps & Dick, those were interesting...

My grandparents took me there on a bus from Allentown. I was age 13. Remember it clearly. Stayed at the Hotel Dixie, took the subway, went to Coney Island too. Also remember the Ford exhibit with the Mustang ride. Amazing stuff. Memorable trip.

I visited several times as I lived in Brooklyn at the time. I was 10/11 years old. It was cool to see the Chrysler Turbine cars as a futuristic type vehicle. See how far they got...?
I distinctly remember almost getting trampled to death one night in a large crowd after a fireworks display.
Life WAS much more simple back then.

Coincidentally, yesterday on 101 Cars You Must Drive ( I think on the Speed Channel), they visited a museum (can't remember where) and drove 1 of 20 Chrysler Turbine cars left in existence. They said that Chrysler destroyed all the rest at the end of their testing program. I think the car on the show was a late 50's car and it was like a light wine or mauve color. You could really hear the turbine and it had a specific start up and shut down procedure inside. The RPM's at idle were 22,000! Pretty cool stuff.

That was at the Walter P. Chrysler Museum at Auburn Hills, MI. Jay Leno has one of the turbine cars, too. There's a ton of information on them at this site: http://www.turbinecar.com/turbine.htm
