1965 plymouth satellite Question **With Pics**

I found a 1965 Satellite and it seems to be not that bad. I think the floor pans are good and trunk pans are good. I have not looked at it in person yet but the price is not to bad so far.

The car needs lower 1/4 panels from what I am told. Who makes good panels for these cars?

I always thougt the 62-67 cars were hard to find panels for and those are some of my favorite years for MOPARs with the Max Wedge, Street Hemi and Hemi combo's and I would love to own a clone car.

So tell me some other problem areas that I need to look at and ask question about with this year car. If you know of good parts places also let me know.

The Sat is original 318 car white with blue bucket seats and console with an auto. This would be a car that I would get and clone and hot rod it out and just enjoy the heck out of it. It would be one that I would drop a 440 maybe a hot 360 in it or a 383 if I could find one. If I could afford a Hemi that would go in for sure.

Also if I want to drop in a different motor from small to big block the K frame will work since its a 318 car right?

Is the rear going to be an 8 3/4 or something else?

I would also like dog dish caps on it and I'm not sure they re-make these for this year.

Thanks guys for all the info and help you can give me. Now back to studying for an exam and then I hope to have some writing done later on for a novel of short stories on street racing. Check out my thread on Two Lane Blacktop for info on that.

Hi , I too just got a 65 Satellite just a few weeks ago,Some parts are hard to find, Interior you can get repop except kick panels and dash pad, floor and trunk pans you can get, lower rear quarters also AMD.Trim exterior and exterior no repops.Mine came from west coast Washington.Still rust in some areas, but that goes with all 50 yr old cars, but frame and main areas all good, ya I,m going the 440 route with Max Wedge cross ram on top just to be different, put some pics up and stay in touch. Ps. Rear will be 8-3/4, k frame will be good up to 440. Not sure about Hemi

Thanks for the info. So what are you going to do about the dash pad? Does anyone refinish them?

I will see if I can find the pics he emailed me this was about a month ago and I hope I didn't delete them. I have them from the old add on my cell phone but it wont let me re-send them to myself. The pics were also small they wouldnt open any bigger that was emailed to me.

Yeah the 440 with a cross ram will look good on it. Post of up some pictures of yours would love to see it.

I know these years do not get a lot of parts being reproduced and its ashame that no one does because it is some of the best looking years of Mopars. The 62-67 cars do need to get some respect from parts production people as well as the 72-74 cars I know the 72s are getting some parts but man the 73-74 cars are not.

I will see what I can do about the pics and I'm going to call the guy tomorrow and see if it is still for sale. I've been thinking about this one due to the parts not being out there or so I thought like body panels and now I will give him a call and see. I know I got him down from $3500 to $2500 but he said he may do better. If I can get it for $1500-$2000 I will take it. I'm asking if he will deliver it for that price and being an hour away shouldn't be to bad.

Just dashes redo them, that's a good price, I payed $4000.00 for mine and that was good, I have,nt done anything on mine yet, Parts ya you can get them, That's what I like is contacting people, touring around to swap meets etc, I just finished do a nut and bolt on a. AAR Cuda, also a 67 and 69 Chevelle, I still have them, but for me once there done all you do is clean the bugs off. I,m never in a rush, the Cuda took 7 years off and on

Wow that is a long time on a car but I know it can take that long at times.

Thanks I will see how the dash is in this one and the other interior panels and go from there on getting prices. This one does run and drive around in the guys driveway and yard but he has not had it on the road.

Ya was a long time. Other 2. Only took 2 years each, university for two kids can get in the way. If you know of anybody that has a extra deck lid ,I,m looking for one Cheers

This picture has me a little worried seeing where the rust is. I found these pics on another board where he posted it with better pics and well more pics. I only recieved the front view and inside shots nothing else. I just saw these after I googled the guys number and glad I got better pics. I'm still going to call him and see if the car is still for sale and what bottom dollar is.

So tell me what everyone thinks about the rust area.

You probably have more under the molding. I have the same on the passenger side on mine but, is much worse. If your cowl is good you have a good find at a good price. Does it have all the air equipment under the hood? Does it run and drive? I paid 2425.00 for mine and the body has more issues and no factory air. You have my blessing to buy the car! LOL. Good luck to ya.

I do not know if all the stuff is there for the AC and the guy is not answering my emails now and I'm going to try and call and see if I get answers. The car does run and drive at least around his yard and driveway. He said the breaks would need to be done to put on the road.

I wonder how bad it is under that molding and I was told it was in the lower quarters not upper part. The lower doesnt worry me as bad as the upper part does and around the window scares me even more. If I get it and its to bad at and I can get it for 1500 I'm sure I can part it out and get my money if not a tad more on.

Well if you get it and decide to part it out let me know indeed some stuff. Thanks

Yeah if I get it and its in bad shape I would part it out or try to and I will keep you posted. I know you need a trunk lid. I did see in the forsale section here there is a 65 4 door Sat the guy is selling but he may part it out.

I hope to get some answers in email before I call from the guy I know he works odd hours so I may call tomorrow afternoon.

I bought a 65 Coronet last year and Kramer Automotive (www.kramerparts.com) listed some sheet metal for it. They specialize in 62-65 Mopars. They used to have quarters and also whell opening repair panels which are smaller and cost less. Sherman auto parts (www.shermanparts.com) carries a lot of stuff for all cars and they are adding stuff all the time. Both websites show sheet metal for your 65 Belvy

Thanks everyone and still waiting for the info from the guy but looks like I'll have to call him tomorrow. I would love to clone this car.

The roaring '65's fall into an abyss when looking for parts! Everybody and their brother selling parts start the Mopar model year at '62-'64 AND 1966 and up! Your going to find that getting parts for this thing is nuts! Sheet metal, radios, dash pads, interior parts, it doesn't matter! Your going to have to be patient. Try Kramer's, he seems to have more stuff then anyone for a '65!

Thank you and that is one of my worries with this car needing something hard to find. It took me 2 to 3 years to find one grill for the drivers side for my 70 Coronet R/T that I had and I thought I would never find it.

Hi,

I as well am restoring a '65. You better check the lower cowel somehow.... passenger and drivers side, mine was not so good and metal for this area is very hard to come by, hand forming likley.

- - - Updated - - -

Mine had the same rust area, water traps under that molding and likley the drip edge is gone as well up a few inches towards the roof. It is all repairable, but as mentioned hand pieces will likely be needed. Hopefully you or somone feels good about tackling that.
