1966 Satellite Big Block Commando

I accumulated some more parts for the ole Sat'. I decided to go with XHD springs since it will be mostly street driven with few trips to the track. Items purchased that I am waiting to receive: Rancho RS9000 shocks (99116), AR095 Front Hangers, AR107 reinforcement plates, and ADDCO 675 7/8" rear sway bar. I measured the ride height before removing the old springs. It was 19 3/4 inches in case it is hard to see in the photo.

Got home yesterday afternoon with a package waiting at the door. The Rancho RS99116 shocks came in. I bought these off Ebay for $50.00 each with $20.00 shipping. The guy still has two more if anyone is looking for a good 9-way adjustable drag shock. They were brand new and the boxes had never been opened, wow. I am just waiting on the front hangers, u-bolts, and reinforcement plates to come in. I guess I will break out the ole POR 15 and get busy on the undercarriage until then.

Does anyone know the best product to use on the shackle bushings to increase free movement? I was thinking about using petroleum jelly/Vaseline to help free movement and hinder binding. Is this a good idea or not?

Couldn't you use a antiseize or graphite on your bushings

Yes antiseize or silicone lube seems to be the consensus.

My engine combination is a 440/512 with the following parts:
Block: 1971 nonhp .060 overbore
Crank: Eagle 4.25 stroke (2.20 rod journals)
Rods: Eagle 7.1 h-beam (.990 pin)
Pistons: SRP
Compression: 11:1
Balancer: Professional Products 90013
Intake: Indy dual plane
Heads: 440 Source Stealth (929-16 springs, 741-16 retainers, 611-16 locks),
ported 290cfm @ 600.
Camshaft: Hydraulic Roller, Comp Cam custom grind (ADV Duration 281-287,@ .050 230-236, lift 622I & 625E w/1.6 rockers. GRIND #: CRB3 3194 /3196 HR111.
Rocker Arms: Crane Cams Gold 1.6
lifters: Comp Cam 8921-16
Push Rods: Smith Bros. Custom
Carb: 950 CFM holley
Exhaust: 1968 HP Manifolds

I hope the combination will make 575hp and 600+tq. That is my goal for this build. I hope to have pictures soon of the engine assembly. My machinist has been unable to get to my project in recent months.

Over the weekend I had some time I could devote to the ole 66'. I pressure washed and cleaned up the rearend in preparation for paint and reassembly.

I went ahead and preassembled the entire rearend. That included the installation of the ADDCO 7/8" sway bar.

Even though my AR Engineering front hangers have not come in I went ahead and mocked up the rearend with the old ones. I did the mock up to find the placement of the sway bar end link brackets that mount to the frame rails. Oh, by the way the new components did raise the ride height by a little over a half inch.

So I am currently waiting on Mancini Racing to send the following components: AR Engineering front hangers & reinforcement plates, u-bolts, new front hanger nuts, 2 degree shims, and an adjustable pinion snubber. I am hoping all the needed parts come in this week so I can get started on something else.

The ups truck showed up yesterday with a few more parts. One more shipment should be coming by the end of the week with the remaining parts to complete the rearend installation.

The UPS man brought the last of the Mancini Racing parts needed to complete the rear suspension upgrade. Yep, the adjustable pinion snubber and some 2 degree shims ought to help planting those meats to the pavement. I hope to complete the install this weekend. I will have to work around travel soccer and travel baseball tourneys though.

Well I picked up a tranny for my project yesterday. Guess I will be adding another pedal in the car. I purchased an 18 spline A833 Hemi 4-speed yesterday for $500.00. The real kicker is it came with a Hurst Super Shifter. One more piece of the puzzle has been found. Attached are a few pictures of the acquisition.
