1967 charger shifter issue

i have a 67 charger with a console shifter and everything is adjusted well to the gear indicator but when you take it from park to reverse it is very difficult. Could this possibly have to do with the shape of the arm that comes off the transmission?

bet you have to adjust the push button on top of the shifter...it may not be going down far enough to clear the gate under the console
