1967 Coronet Deluxe

Wow Kb! i just read thru your whole thread, and have come a long *** way!! keep up the great work, and she'll be rumbling along in no time!!

Thanks. I still have quite a bit of metal work to do but have been maintaining a decent pace so far this year. I hope to have it running/moving under its own power by November...not necessarily drivable though.

Holy smokes, I just read through this whole thread and I am seriously impressed! You do great work and for a guy like me on a serious budget you are a real inspiration! I can't wait to see more progress happen on this car! Well done sir, well done indeed!

Thanks. Don't count the chickens before they've hatched...time will only tell if it all works the way I anticipate!

Well no progress lately guys, I had high hopes for this week but it was over 100 3 days this week and upper 90's the rest. Since I have to work in my driveway I decided movies, beer and air-conditioning seemed logical

I started patching up the trunk floor last night and got one big patch tacked in before running out of shielding gas (thats starting to get annoying).

Pics as promised. Some of the patch i started welding in, another of one of the others ready for welding and a couple of some of the recently acquired sheet metal. Also on the way is a quarter patch panel from rock auto for the pass side to fix up the rust spots in preparation for putting the trunk extension back in.

A few more of the progress. All but one of the trunk patches are at least tacked in. Once i finish welding and cleaning up the welds in the trunk I will start on the passenger side quarter panel. Then I can get the trunk extension back in and be done with the trunk once and for all.:icon_fU:

Thanks. Unfortunately no I am not a pro. I actually (now a days) sit at a desk and look at drawings or walk around a refinery looking at pipe. But keep thinking I am!

MarPar,
To answer your question I hope so but I think budgetary constraints will probably prevent that this year. I need quite a few parts, some of which I hope to get from a salvage yard but others I know I'll have to buy outright.

Some I still have to acquire:

Alternator
Belt Tensioner
Radiator
Hoses
Wiring Harness (probably Ron Francis)
Gauges
Fuel Lines
Brake Lines
Rear Brake Parts
Front Brake Calipers/Pads
Rear Wheel Bearings
Drive Shaft
Clutch

And a whole lotta time!

I got most of the trunk patching done and once again ran out of welding gas. I think its time to up to the bigger tank! I just have to wait a bit since I had to buy some parts for the Ram...dang O2 sensors..

I did stick the patch panel on the quarter where it will go, now I just have to cut and figure out how much I want to use. Photos:

Also went salvage yard hunting though found almost nothing I could use. I did end up getting a nice cooling fan out of a Grand Cherokee to use.

Nice looking work kb67. Heck of a tougher resto on the prior '68 cars. Can't just call up AMD and wave a wand to get new metal. Donored from another car makes the older models twice as much work to bring back.

nice work on the trunk floor.those body lines on those cars can be a real pain to get right i imagine.

At least you can get some of the patches but yeah to make this easier I did buy a whole parts car.

As for the body lines, I have no idea how I will get those straight. I am not a body guy by any means so more then likely I'll have to enlist some help but I think I'll give a shot at it.

"but I think I'll give a shot at it"

Watching your work and skills, im not going to be surprised when you do get it done and looking right! Good luck.

looks good!....you do some nice metal work.....and i was complaining about a few spot welds...

Thanks guys. I do have fun doing it but there are times I wish I had went to Arizona to start my project.....

So far the rust repair has went pretty well and I have gotten better with my patchwork. Note to anybody just starting this: Do the trunk/underhood/floors first where a few mistakes won't be seen. It helps you learn before you get to the highly visible stuff.

I managed to finally work on the car again last night but it was cut short by lack of daylight. I did get the pass side quarter panel cut to accept my new patch panel though I have lots of patchwork quilt to do on the wheel house. Next time I remember I'll post up some pics but nothing with me at the moment.

I managed to make some killer progress on the car today. I got the wheelhouse all patched up and even got the quarter panel welded in with the exception of welding it to the wheel house with spotwelds. And of course I still have plenty of weld grinding to do.

I didn't have a rust free wheel house down in the front corner so I had to make the patch myself hence why it looks a little funky. But being behind the quarter panel I was less than concerned.
