Hey guys, my 440 will be coming home from the machine shop soon and i would like to paint it... Now in the past ive used PPG DP epoxy primer followed by PPG concept urethane and am absolutely thrilled with the results, i did that with my 340.... I can not find a code to bring to my PPG supplier so that he can mix me up a quart. I was was wondering if anyone has a CORRECT paint code.. i dont want to use a spray can or something thats brushed on, can anyone help? thanks for reading...Rich

Call BAPS in York, Pa. They have a pretty sweet custom color mixed for JE. Maybe they’ll share with your jobber.

Original part from what I can tell. I had a lot of good paint on the engine to compare.

Local Mopar dealer, Roseville Mopar parts, Summit Racing, etc...

P4120752AB Turquoise Engine Paint. Cap is not indicative of the actual color. Mopar mixes their paints to the original formula so it is correct.

I have always used engine paint from TOTALY AUTO always matched & lasted.

thanks XMAN.. i spoke with them and the price for a quart of concept urethane from PPG was $368 , i thought that was crazy.I also spoke with Frank Badalson, i was going to order a pint of his enamel and then have my guy match it and mix it up in concept urethane but Frank is out of it and he does'nt think he will have it any time soon....69L48Z27 What kind of paint is that?

guys, i really appreciate the replies but i really want to use an urethane paint, i really love the depth and shine that it gives

PPG Shopline JE. Enamel. Not sure if they can mix it in JAU, urethane.

My jobber says this is a no go.
The flake is in the base. I believe it’s silver tone base.
I went in with that exact number.

I ended up with Franks paint, which is PPG acrylic enamel.

I shot mine with an HVLP gun, but you can brush it with really good results as well. It flows out and the cast iron has so much texture in it, you can’t tell it’s been brushed. That said, a show car finish would have plenty of bare areas on the bottom of the engine and pan, and a spray pattern that replicated the top spray position of a factory job.

Decide what you want for a finished product and apply the paint accordingly

You can do cast iron and touch up thermostat housings/water pump housings etc......and have it flow smooth....
But the flat non cast iron surfaces will not flow out smooth......
@greycharger cannot supply a picture of a source he "claims" to be brushable and flows smooth on ALL surfaces. Why are you reluctant to supply a picture of something you claim to be nice and it just may or may not? Words speaks inches pictures speak miles:D

Here is a "Factory job" .....

Considering 4799D is the code for Dupont Dulux paint which has been obsolete since the mid 90's it's not to surprising that reformulating in some newer paints doesn't work... I was able to get it mixed in PPG DBC single stage urethane about three years ago......

Yes, I tried to have him cross that code to something in a newer line to no avail.

It was easier to just buck up and pay frank for the PPG acrylic enamel.

I used PPG concept with a flattening agent on my boat engine.

There are many ways to skin this cat.

This is correct and I ran into this same situation years ago.....Which is why I have two sources for this type of paint(one is Frank)....Both are PPG acrylic enamel...The latter is Chaz Dallas....the one whom did totally auto's paint line....
