Body filler options….what do you use?

I've used several brands since the mid 70's, and I'll say that the preparation and minimal application possible is far more important.

I used this on my car and have been impressed with it, spreads super easy, no sag and sands really nice without clogging paper..

My supplier here recommends the "Automotive Art Eurofil gold" he sells alot of it with good feedback from repeat customers. It was $39 a gallon last fall. I also needed to do a lot of skim coating towards the end (car was ROUGH!) so I bought a gallon of the expensive RAGE Ultra thinking the working time would be longer, but it was not. I actually liked the cheaper stuff better. The can was full too!

I primarily used USC AG47 on the GTX and was satisfied with it, I'd use it again.

My cousin gave me about 1/2 gallon of Rage Extreme, I used a little bit of it, I think it's good, but it's not 3X as good.

I always try to tailor the viscosity of the filler for the job with another USC product, Super Charger which is like evercoat Plastik Honey but a better value.

Overall it seems USC has really stepped up their game lately and based on recent experience, I
definitely want to try more of their products out to see how they perform. For the gtx project I also bought a whole case of USC purple masking tape
which saved money over individual rolls, a roll of their masking plastic, and some other things besides those......everything from them
worked great and didn't cost a fortune.

It is disappointing to learn that I've been paying more than I had to for this stuff.
That is part of life though, you live and hopefully you learn from your mistakes.
If this stuff:

Is as easy to work with as this:

...for 1/3 the cost? Why spend more than necessary?

and when you get to the bottom of the year old can; and crave some fresh, creamy filler........... it doesn't hurt so much to throw it away

any of you guys use a cheese grater? I do 95% of my filler work with one........... followed with 36 on a board or a block, followed up with 100-ish and a skim coat of glaze....... very little sanding.

If I walked in on someone making a huge cloud of dust with some sort of air sander, I would fire them........ notice the fresh mozzarella

I ordered my gold from amazon and if you look in the reviews people complain that it shows up opened in the box.. which mine did.. called and got a refund and scooped it back into the can.. still had bout 3/4 left which did the job.. was a mess though

I use a cheese grater for cheese, sometimes for bodywork.

I don't just slather on the filler, at $120 a gallon I'm a bit more stingy than that.

I never used a grater, i HATE bodywork more than anything.. so i'm learning as i go.. i put that stuff on then take it down with 120 on a DA.. then add more cause i didn't do it right the first time.. i do that like 6 times then i get it good enough to block

cheese grater by hand will get you there in 2 layers, 3 if it's a deep dent........... and it'll be straight

I didn't even know they exist til a few days ago... I would like to eventually paint my whole car. but right now just doing panels as needed to get it on the road

I'll ad, I use it with my hands..... there is no sort of "holding" tool required

you have to mix your filler so it doesn't get too hard too fast......... don't bite off too big an area, you have a few minutes where it actually grates like cheese

hard filler will dull the blade, gummy filler will clog it

You guys ever get what feels like a "false memory"?
I don't know if this happened to me or if I dreamed about it.....
I was doing body filler work on a car and mixed up a glop of filler, the last in the can. I had several areas that needed a swipe and a dab. It was after hours on a Saturday and my supplier was closed until Monday. I was expecting a call on something and when the phone rang, I answered it. The dude blabbed on and on and of course, by the time he was done talking, the filler had hardened on the board and was useless.

I see things in LITERAL terms so this is really strange to me.

I tried a grater, but it was on hard mud. I can imagine the difference. Can see where using a tool might encourage the use of too much pressure. I do my final sanding with a wooden stick and finger tips for a light touch.
So, in this photo, you are matching the door and fender?
