I've used several brands since the mid 70's, and I'll say that the preparation and minimal application possible is far more important.
Have you tried the miracle version in post 12?I used this on my car and have been impressed with it, spreads super easy, no sag and sands really nice without clogging paper..

Nice, didn't see the post I hate bodywork sooo much... but it's coming along. Takes me 10x the time a body guy could do it inHave you tried the miracle version in post 12?
It is disappointing to learn that I've been paying more than I had to for this stuff.
That is part of life though, you live and hopefully you learn from your mistakes.
If this stuff:

Is as easy to work with as this:

...for 1/3 the cost? Why spend more than necessary?

I never used a grater, i HATE bodywork more than anything.. so i'm learning as i go.. i put that stuff on then take it down with 120 on a DA.. then add more cause i didn't do it right the first time.. i do that like 6 times then i get it good enough to block
I didn't even know they exist til a few days ago... I would like to eventually paint my whole car. but right now just doing panels as needed to get it on the roadcheese grater by hand will get you there in 2 layers, 3 if it's a deep dent........... and it'll be straight

I'll ad, I use it with my hands..... there is no sort of "holding" tool required
you have to mix your filler so it doesn't get too hard too fast......... don't bite off too big an area, you have a few minutes where it actually grates like cheese
hard filler will dull the blade, gummy filler will clog it
I have dreams of eating **** at work.. then having to get up to go to work.. those are my favorite...You guys ever get what feels like a "false memory"?
I don't know if this happened to me or if I dreamed about it.....
I was doing body filler work on a car and mixed up a glop of filler, the last in the can. I had several areas that needed a swipe and a dab. It was after hours on a Saturday and my supplier was closed until Monday. I was expecting a call on something and when the phone rang, I answered it. The dude blabbed on and on and of course, by the time he was done talking, the filler had hardened on the board and was useless.
I see things in LITERAL terms so this is really strange to me.I have dreams of eating **** at work.. then having to get up to go to work.. those are my favorite...
haha well... i an assure you i was being figurativeI see things in LITERAL terms so this is really strange to me.
I tried a grater, but it was on hard mud. I can imagine the difference. Can see where using a tool might encourage the use of too much pressure. I do my final sanding with a wooden stick and finger tips for a light touch.any of you guys use a cheese grater? I do 95% of my filler work with one........... followed with 36 on a board or a block, followed up with 100-ish and a skim coat of glaze....... very little sanding.
If I walked in on someone making a huge cloud of dust with some sort of air sander, I would fire them........ notice the fresh mozzarella
