1967 Plymouth GTX Air Cleaner

Question: On the 1967 Plymouth GTX was the dual snorkel air cleaner from the factory finished in smooth or wrinkled textured black paint. I'm seeing them both ways??? Thanks.

Not wrinkle black

NOTE: I have seen the non-snorkel Black Wrinkle finish

Mine is dual snorkel with wrinkle finish.

To confuse things even more it seems like some were painted turquoise engine color. Hard to understand how they managed that since you would think the air cleaner would have arrived at the assembly plant finish painted and the engine was painted at the engine assembly plant???

Restored them for years; seen supposed originals in both wrinkle and semi-gloss black, and engine color. Good question!!!

The factory original 67 I owned back in the 70s had the black wrinkle finish on the air cleaner.

You can't go wrong with the wrinkle finish! Although I have see some GTX's that were supposedly OE the spec calls for wrinkle finish (not certain about the R/T??)! Forget about the turquoise; those were only pre-production demo photos. All production units were black.

All, I am also restoring a 1967 GTX that I have had stored for the past 30+ years, (2 kids, 2 college degrees) and now it's time to get back to the "X". I know there has been all kinds of discussion about GTX air cleaners and I think it was the first year and Mopar did all kinds of crazy things, (the block had 66 on the casting for instance). One thing I have a question about is the heigth of the air cleaner without the base. I have aquired a few over the years, collecting the things that I originally got rid of to put the fancy chrome ones on in its place. They all have 13 indents, same diameter, same snorkle length, some with CAP connections on the snorkles, some not, but some are 4" high without the base and the others are 3 3/8" high without the base? I have a 1967 GTX, 440 4 speed, does anyone have an original car that can answer my question along with the carb number? As I progress I'll be posting pictures. Thanks in advance guys! I look forward to driving this "Beast" again.
