How rare is a 1968 charger slant six 3 on the tree?

I'm sure it's very rare. But keep in mind what constitutes "rare"; very expensive when new or extremely undesirable. In this case, it's the latter. Also, the rarity of a slant 6 Charger of it is not going to translate into big bucks.

Yes that's a good answer. Does anyone know how many of these 6 cylinder chargers were actually produced in 1968 and how many with a manual trans? I've tried searching all over the web and there are answers but no one is sure on there answer.

I have an old Galen Govier book from 1998 that shows 1968 Charger production with the 225 slant six was 904 built. and that 902 were automatics and 2 were 3 speeds. That would make it quite rare indeed. But as others have stated, in this case its rare because it was an undesirable combination. Translated to today's market, it will be valued for the condition and completeness of its body only. Few, if any, serious buyers would consider keeping the original drive train. Virtually the entire drive train, and even the 3 on the tree steering column, would be replaced in the engine/transmision swap.

X2 So many chargers get the big block clone treatment, it's nice to see an original base budget charger. Although they were not the desirable one to have they are still worth something. Leave it be as some day it might be the only one and a collector "might" pay good money for it.

As you surmised by your question, quite rare. But I, for one, would buy this car right now & leave it exactly as equipped ! Hemi/6-bbl convertibles were an undesired combination back in the day as well, so that's kind of redundant. It's one thing to clone one of the billion-or-so 318-automatic cars, but an oddity is another thing. Obviously, some formerly undesirable combo's, as my aforementioned, are super valuable now. As for value, the question is what the difference is between another run-of-the-mill R/T clone, or your oddball car. I don't ever recall seeing your car's combo, & I've been around these cars since when they were new.

I would like to have one all finished up as a good driver and put it in a show next to a Hemi Charger and see who gets more attention....I'm betting the 6cyl car would get more looks

I've only seen 1 '68 slant 6 Charger - I don't remember what trans it had. If it was a 3-speed then there is a 50% chance I've laid eyes on the one in question. It was in SoCal in the early 1980's, and it was green, I remember it having a buddy seat.

I have seen 1 at Carlisle. Pretty sure its an automatic. I am in the keep it the way it is camp. Its uniqueness makes it worth keeping original.

I have a 68 charger dealership sales brochure and it has the 318 as standard. Doesnt say 1 word about the slant 6. 318, 383, 440 and the hemi. That's it. Anyone ever see a 340 in a charger?

Because they liked the body style but could not afford the bigger engines (or where buying it for the wife/kid to drive I know this cause my mom had a fit when my first car had a V8 when all my brothers had 6 cylinder first cars). Every option above a 318 was a couple of hundred to the price tag. Also back then the attitude was "what ever the customer wants" and if they wanted a /6 the factory would do it. Don't forget that the Camaro and Mustang were both 6 cylinder based cars and sold well.

Old gal in neighborhood when I was a kid had a 68 Charger- green on green with a green vinyl roof slant six auto. It was a clean car. Should have bought it.
