1968 Coronet RT Headlight surround

No paint. The highs are not painted, neither are the "slopes". Just the "low" is painted. Thanks for the picture, I haven't had a chance to look on Google on my computer at work.
Considering the tops of the grill cheese grater have a similar amount of reflection I commented about it could go either way.... Pictures can be funny...

I'm using my originals either way. Not aftermarket ones.
And thats actually what got my talking with Tony, he had four sets of originals that had been re-anodized... Three had the cross hatch bare, one was solid black... I asked who got lazy when prepping them... And got the whole story... I bought the solid black ones... They match my NOS grill pretty well... Wish we could still buy those kind of parts for those kind of prices...

I don't know if aftermarket exist. I doubt it. Not many 68 RTs were ever made, so not much demand for aftermarket.

And as far as sanding off the raised areas why not use lacquer thinner in a rag & wipe the tops of the raised areas...

I have tried stuff like that and always seem to hit the painted part with the thinner...... my idea of sanding would be with 800 grit, the grid lines are tiny, I doubt the 800 scratch would be noticeable

Don't ya hate that? LOL...

you guys want me to get the part number of those solid black ones and post it up? is that usable info for you?

Man built it, so man can rebuild it...but how did Man do it the first time??? It seems like it's one of those crazy Dodge things that was done different ways at different places or times during the year...

Thanks but I'm sure I've got it somewhere.. Doubt you could find ones listed under that number anyway....

looks like the 500s got black ones also

the bright grid lines just seem like a lot of extra work for mass produced cars built for profit

Yeah, that is why painting the whole thing black makes the most sense, but they clearly look like they are supposed to have the bright grid lines. If Dodge did it that way, there has to be a fast way to do it.

I did a quick image search and I see them both ways. They probably came with the bright grid lines, but anybody that restores them, just paints the whole flat part black.

NOS "Charger 500" grill.. all black... suspect no different than it was for a '68 R/T and probably the same part ##.. but I've been wrong before.

There is no doubt that the grille is black, its the headlight surrounds that are sometimes black and sometimes with bright high ridges. Thanks
