1968 dodge charger auto to manual conversion

Generally speaking more splines equals stronger.

Yes, generally.
In this case, the 18 spline has a larger diameter shaft and stronger gears. It’s not the spline count that makes it stronger or less strong, in this case

Yes and when you go with more splines they generally aren't cut as deep which reduces the shaft diameter as well.

That very well may be, but in this case, it does not apply. The 18 spline is stronger.

Dear All
Another question on this. Does this conversion affect the re-sale value of the vehicle? I mean it will no longer be stock (IMO it will be better but not stock).

IMHO, I would leave it automatic. 30 yr 4 speed owner here. Think of what you can do with those funds elsewhere on the car. Opinions are like...

I converted my coronet RT. The engine is numbers matching but the trans was not.

I really don’t give a crap about the value of the car. That said, I doubt it hurt the value any, and may have additional value to the next owner. I saved every part, so the next owner could convert it back if they wanted to.

To me, the car was extremely boring as an auto. With the 4 speed, it’s a blast.

Hi I hear you but I can't leave it auto, all that power not in my full control. Nothing beats changing manual gears when you want to, hitting those revs at the sweet spot and then changing.

I too was planing on boxing up any parts I change so any new owner can go back to stock. I'll stick to that as a plan.

I had the same situation with my 70 RR, 383 auto. It was a dog with the auto and a beast with the 4 speed. I actually think it increased the value when I sold it. The conversion was done with all date correct parts ( 833, bellhousing, pedals, shifter, etc.) so that might have helped.
No regrets at all.
