1968 Dodge Charger identification problems!

I have a 68' Dodge Charger we thought it was a 383 V8 but the ran the dash VIN tag on Oleride.com and it said the car was a 318 car! We have looked in different places on the motor for the engine tag but cant find it! Where are the engine code located? How can I tell which motor the car has in it?Thanks!

is the distributor in the front of the motor or back?

There are casting numbers on the passanger side of the block.

If the distributor is in the front of the block there will be an ID pad next to it. For a B motor 383, 400, 361 it is directly behind the distributor. If it is a rb block 413, 440 it is to the right of the distributor. Either of those pads will be stamped with the block size.

And if the distributor is in the back by the firewall it's a 318 (or some other s/b).
