This will give you a start....

You need to fight this with management. They are clearly wrong. Couldn't get a U engine in a 73 Coronet

OK I found a Chrysler Vin decoder that says (and matches the information given here) W shared by Charger and Coronet. P - Premium , 29 Charger 2 door hard top. U - 440 4bbl. HP engine. 3 - 1973. C - Michigan Plant and then the serial number for this car. And thanks for the help we will go from there.

Post #30 and post #25 look pretty "legit" to me. Id take as much supporting documentation down there as you can ( and forget about decoders online ).

Its been said already, but WP29U3G is a most definitely a 73 Charger SE 440 car. The DMV did you wrong tossing the tittle (assuming it had the same numbers on it!) and you should be in their management offices Monday morning before this thing gets too cold. Hopefully you have an old registration for it to bring along to the battle?

FYI, my title for my 72 Charger under model says "COR2T". I would bet my 73 Charger says "COR3T". Perhaps something like that confused them?

To the OP, If the DMV looked at a chart similar to this make sure that they understand that chart shouldn’t be read horizontally in a straight line. If they read it this way they could be interpreting the WP as a Dodge Coronet. The chart should be read like a Chinese menu, one from column A and one from column B.

Exactly

Have them Google (with you overseeing) '1973 Charger vin'. Then do 'Coronet' too. There are numerous examples to review showing "Wx" for both.

Got an attorney friend?

Does this car have its fender tag?

Definitely fond the numbers on the core support and cowl.
