1969 Charger R/T resurrection

Looking good, too bad about the paint peeling off. Thanks for the heads up on it, though.

Can you believe 260 5/16" holes in my trunk pan? This is not counting the flanges for the drops. I guess it shouldn't fall out of there. It fit fairly well with the only complaint I would have is the down turn flanges that attach to the inner wheelhouses should be longer. There is a portion that is only about 1/4" flanged. Kinda hard to make a nice looking 5/16 plug weld in that area.
Also cut my frame connectors from some 2.5 x1.5x 1/8" tubing. This works good on these car, fitting snugly around the front of the rear frame rails and butting to the torsion bar crossmember. I will weld these in while the car is all braced up.

Hi Elk,
How did you get your trunk floor in? It looks like it is a full pan and with all that bracing it doesn't look like it would go in, unless you slid it in from the rear tail panel?

Hey Don,
We cut out the metal between the taillights to get it in. I think I posted a picture of this. It just fit under the 1 x 2.5 horizontal brace you see in the picture - we planned for this. By doing it this way, all the tailend structure was intact. Welded the truck pan to the new frame rails and then welded a brace on each side down from the horizontal 1 x 2.5 to the new floor on top of the frame rails. This kept everything in check before cutting any pieces on the rear of the car off.

Thanks Elk, I will be doing the exact same thing you did (donor rear frame rails) and will brace it up as per your example.
I guess I need to get a floor pan 1st so I have something to measure and I can brace it up so it can slide in from the rear.
This will be at the top of my list of things to look for at the Indy swap meet tomorrow!

I bought a 68 charger service manual and look what I found., should be the same or near 69 & 70. Looks useful but may have to improvise it on side view for not having any axles or wheels & tires. I think coronet is same as charger.

I ordered a set of .960 Mopar Performance torsion bars form the local Dodge dealer. $232. plus tax which was the cheapest I could find. My car originally came with .920 and these new ones are quite a bit beefier. I had thought I had a problem with one of my old bars being that it was slightly bent. There was a recent thread on here where I think RRR said this is normal and will go back straight when back in the car under load. I guess I won't find out now that I have a brand new set of HD ones.

Since I am redoing all my suspension parts I decided to order a k-frame stiffening kit from Firm Feel. It is a 7 piece set that consists of a skid plate, reinforcements for the lower control arm shafts and strut rods, and 2 pieces to box in the steering mount. I think they are making pretty good money selling this for $75., but it all fit good. I also ordered the lower control arm stiffening plates from PST and should have those this week.

Looks like you took advantage of your time in the shop. Looks good.

Looks good, your going to have one nice Charger when it's done.

Thanks guys. I think it will turn out pretty nice. Now if I could only decide on a exterior color life would be good.

What colors are you thinking about?

As of now 2012 Dodge Copperhead pearl, 2003-08 GoManGo pearl, 1970 FK5. I am going with a black interior so probably a black vinyl top also. Rump stripe either black or white.

Sorry, not familiar with paint codes FK5? I'm a little partial to orange on the 68-70 B Bodies, I've went to allot of shows looking at different colors and just love orange on them. Mine will be House of Colors Tangelo pearl, it's a three step paint (white, translucent orange and clear). I've seen them copper as well, that looks sharp. Another color that looks great on them is dark metallic green, I think it's a forest green. Best thing to do is just make sure you look at a lot of cars. Good luck

Let's see. Pearl, BC/CC, metalflake, Single stage. Chameleon, or an array of psycodelic colors. Does that help any?

FK5 is burnt orange. I like the oranges too, especially with vinyl top. I can just hear it now though 'well why didn't you put the 01 on the side of it'.

Elk, your car is going to look awesome when it is finished. I wish I had the skills to tear mine down completely and get it done the right way. But right now, money and time are limited. Cant wait to see the finished product.

I like your color selections, burnt orange was also one of my considerations. What ultimately made up my mind was a trip to the Good Guys car show, everytime I walked up to a car that I loved it was Tangelo Pearl.

I gotta look at this and just kind of chuckle a bit H2E....First this color, than that..then another. Identical to what I was doing not that long back on my bird. Feel for you man. Exciting to pick out the paint, but then again it's like what to buy the wife for your first christmas together.

Glad you are amused by my indecision Prop. At least I know someone is having a good time with my dilema.

I don't think there is one of us that hasn't gone thru this problem. there are just so many colors that look good on these cars.
