1969 Charger R/T resurrection

Awesome, it's all looking great especially the underside of that hood. Looks a mile deep

And yeah don't get me wrong I never take offense or anything when someone makes the General Lee reference, it just happens all the time lol. Imo any appreciation for the car is always nice, regardless of where it comes from :icon_thumleft:

Tonight we finished up with the remainder of the painting that I will be doing in my garage. The bottom of the deck lid and the front end in base/clear from the cowl down. Now I have to decide how much undercoating I will put on in addition to what I'll be spraying on the outside of the inner fenders. I'm thinking the front floor pans or any areas that would be susceptible to rock chips.

Wow Elk, When you start a project and deal with all the issues for months and then get to this point and it not even done yet and see it like this, its sometimes hard to believe its the same car..
Awesome work and quality care on this Car!! This sure is going to be a beauty, id love to see this and the black beast Will has sitting side by side! Two of Dodge and Plymouth's masterpieces, both in sinister black!

Every once in awhile I go back and look at pics of this car when I got it. And then think that I must have been crazy to attempt a resto on it. Many - many hours later it has transformed into a solid shell again, and in my opinion was done the best that I could with no corners cut. I did enjoy the transformation and have learned a lot. It would be an honor to some day be able to park next to Props RR. That would be an awesome picture.

Elk, Try these guys and tell them what your looking for, chances are they should be able to help you if im being told right about them, 800.941.4550 Phoenix Graphix... That one you spoke of sounds like it was a glossy black car and a glossy stripe if it blended in that good. kind of strange but different likes abound i guess.

The funny thing about reflective black, it that it looks kinda grey because of the reflective material...Any standard vinyl cutter can do it, it's just finding one who has the art graphic you need...in this case, the rump stripe. phoenix cuts them, those performance guys can probably do it...

I'd love to do a black '74 roadrunner with a reflective black stripe...the one that goes the length of the car, then up and over the roof...man...that'd just be cool, IMO.

here's another pic of reflective decal in action...

I am a big fan of the reflective stripes too. They look almost the same as a flat black stripe during daylight and really pop at night. The company I use has always been Performance Car Graphics. I have had great service and parts from them. I like them because they are in the same State as me and are a dedicated Mopar restoration shop. They also do dashes and gauges too, besides the stripes. They use the same material as the originals were made from.

I have heard you all talk highly of Phoenix, so on my next restoration I may give them a try.

Decided to do a little undercoating this evening. Should be the last time I will have to tape off the front of the car.:hello2:

I've been using this stuff from RestoRick. I think it is a good product and it lays out decent. I bought 4 gallons and have used almost 3 so far. Inside of the rear quarters, rear wheel wells, backside of the front fenders, and outer inner fenders are done. I'm trying to decide if I want to use the last gallon on the underside of the trunk drop area, or if some other place is more deserving.

And the finished product. I bolted on the splash shields and inspection covers prior to undercoating and will touch up the bolt heads after the final assembly. I think the factory did this undercoating after the car was put together so these shields would have been covered with the coating. This is a messy job and I didn't want to do it after the car was done. With my luck, I would have undercoat overspray everywhere.

Bit by bit. I forgot to take a pic of the ashtray before hand, but it was not pretty. I ended up blasting it in my cabinet and the outcome even surprised me.

I'm thinking the next step might be to see if I remember how to put the grill assembly together.

Damn I'm jealous seeing your car moving along so quickly with the paint and undercoating, looks awesome!!

Also I'll be finishing up my grille this week and doing the full step by step post this weekend if there's no surprises. But I have plenty of pictures and notes from when I took everything apart so I'd remember how to piece it back together, just shoot me a pm if you end up needing em

Thanks for the offer - If I have any problems, I might just take you up on that.

Thanks Kid. I don't feel like I am winning any races with this project, but then again I'm not trying to either. Been a little over a year since I removed the first bolt on her. Hope your quarter welding is going ok. Don't be in a hurry on those - such a long weld and you need to keep the warping and shifting to a minimum.

WOW H2E the build is picking up pace very quickly and it looks awesome !!!

An hour here and an hour there is all it is getting now. I will be extremely busy with the day job until December, but then I am hoping to spend more time with the car.

Thanks Ron. I like the texture that I ended up with, but it sure did suck having to scuff my nice new clear coat.

Ha - Then I would be sitting around like Prop wondering what to do next lol. And I'm not ready for that yet. I'm hoping to get it all bolted together late winter/early spring. In addition to my work load, I have 2 boys in football. And as every parent knows, that trumps everything else in life at their ages.

yeah with kids & especially sports you will have no problem staying busy... I remember those days, 3 girls & a boy plus my sister kids staying with me, while she was deployed in the AF, my niece & nephew added to the mix, way too many sports, tennis, soccer, T-ball, softball, volleyball, baseball, track, field hockey & Lacrosse, but especially football & me racing or playing Golf... It's hard to keep up with all of it, but also fun as hell too... I miss it now... Cherish it while you can... I hope they do well in Football too, that's my other favorite past time, to watch it now anyway...LOL... car looks awesome
