1969 Charger R/T resurrection

Nice color! You're wife has got a good taste...:icon_winkle:

I agree with your wife, Will and almost everyone else the black on black looks sooooo cool in person on a black car. Also have to agree with Ron, you and your boys the while will look great too so you really cannot lose.

The updates/pictures look most excellent Elk keep pressing on !

Thanks for all the support guys. It sure is a good feeling to have some paint sprayed on the car - even if it is only the interior. If we do end up going with a matte black rump stripe, does anybody here have any ideas where to buy it? Is there different shades of matte? I would think if it is to dark, it won't hardly be noticeable. I saw a black Cuda a couple of weeks ago with a black stripe on the rear quarters that blended into the paint. I remember thinking what was the point of even putting that stripe on the car.

I will be using a sticker. I like the one you posted on the Jeep. It looks dark grey almost. So where would I get one made like that?

Elk, Try these guys and tell them what your looking for, chances are they should be able to help you if im being told right about them, 800.941.4550 Phoenix Graphix... That one you spoke of sounds like it was a glossy black car and a glossy stripe if it blended in that good. kind of strange but different likes abound i guess.

Awesome job elk, the monster is looking great! And you're beating me to the punch! I was planning on doing that black with a matte black stripe haha love how deep that black is :icon_thumleft:

Also if you figure out what the name is for that "finish" of decal, you could probably ask Phoenix Graphics to make you up a custom stripe in that reflective finish. Either way Phoenix Graphics is the way to go imo

I think I bought some decals or something from Phoenix Graphics years ago, but didn't know they did custom stuff. I'll give them a call. And yes, it was a gloss black hockey stripe on a gloss black car. It just didn't make any sense to me.

Sounds like we might have twins someday. Yeah it is black for sure - even blacker than I imagined. Did you do any checking on the matte stripe options?

Man your car is looking sweet....
Have you ever tried Performance Car Graphics ???
Im not trying to start any vendor wars here but I have had very good service with them. I'm pretty sure they offer a reflective black stripe kit for your car. You can check out their web site or call them to see for sure.
Here is an example of what they look like...

The reflective stripes really look cool at night when lights hit them.
They have a semi flat look to them during daylight hours.

I hope this helps.

Haha that's fine by me, yours is looking great! :eek:ccasion14:

Yeah I actually talked to phoenix through their account here on the forum and they said they could do a matte black decal no problem. I can't say for sure on the custom stuff but I wouldn't think it'd be a huge stretch if they could get the material. I really like that reflective stuff too

I called Phoenix today. Talked to a real nice fellow about the matte stripes. He offered to send me a sample, so I took him up on that. That was awful nice of them in my opinion. I'll post a picture when it shows up.

Wow, what a surprise to see "PAINT". I was pulling for the orange but can see why you chose black "pretty sweet" and I do really like the matte black idea. Way to go:headbang:

no on the custom stuff. I had contacted them earlier, and they don't do any.

I hope I didn't let you down to bad. lol. The final straw was when I took the seat frames to get blasted and a guy comes up to me and asks what I am working on. I got as far as saying "1969 Dodge Cha", and he interrupts me with "Like the Dukes right? You gonna jump it like they did?" All this while making big swooping hand jesters like a car taking off and jumping 100 yards at a crack. It is amazing what that show did for the perception of these 2nd generation Chargers. I still think the dark orange with a black top would be my 1st choice - if it wasn't for that show.

The man I talked to said it would be no problem. I would be looking for the standard Charger rump stripe - just in matte black instead of gloss. Were you trying to have a custom design made? Maybe that is the difference.

Got a few more things in paint and crossed off the list last night. Front seats I did in satin black, but everything else in body color. This color is so dark and reflective that it is about impossible to get decent photos of it. The fender tag is a good example of this. It turned out really nice, but doesn't look it in the picture. So now I have a triple green fender tag going on a triple black car - who would have ever thought?

yeah mine was custom. I wanted 383 4bbl like the 440 6bbl for my A12 type hood.

Lol if I had a quarter for every time this has happened when I tell someone what I'm working on..

And the parts are really looking great, are you using a single-stage for these odds and ends parts or base/clear? Definitely looking forward to seeing the whole car in paint

I take it as a compliment when they refer to it as a General, not that I'd ever build a General or want one but people remember that bad @$$ car that they always watched on TV and immediately draw the connection. I think you guys are taking it the wrong way, people say that because they usually love the General and think it's really cool that you have one. I've had people not know what I was talking about (69 Charger) and I'd just say "you know, the General Lee" and they'd all of a sudden get all excited and start asking questions about it. No, you didn't disappoint me, it's going to look awesome either way.

hunt2elk damn it's come a long way, :iamwithstupid: great looking & quality work

Thanks Bud. I was just reminiscing about what this thing looked like when I hauled it home. I had no idea it was going to be such a huge project, but I feel as though the worst is over now.

I am using the same base/clear that will cover the exterior for everything except the seat frames, which I sprayed in satin.

Actually after thinking about it, I believe you are correct. It is THE car that most people think about when a Charger is mentioned. Nobody ever says anything in regards to Bullit or the Fast & Furious Chargers.
