1969 Road Runner....another one!

Hey Capt. I m the one that bought some fenders from the guy that you bought your rr from. I got fenders, floor halves and floor foot patch panels(new) , air grabber hood, quarter skins, doors. I live bout 45 min west of Columbus right of I-70 . Get ahold of me if you need anything, I need to get these parts sold. I will make you a good deal on whatever you need. What does that guy charge to blast the rr? Now i might be interested. Thanks, Brad

Thanks Brad!

I still need a decent deck lid, passenger fender and a trunk pan. I'll likely pick that up at the swap meet on the 18th. Does your hood have the airgrabber boxes? I need those if so. I have the clutch pedal and the 833. I am missing everything in between...linkage, z bar, fork, BB bell housing etc. Also missing a radiator / fan / air cleaner base and lid.

I haven't really started looking for these parts yet because I'm no where near needing them...but if you have them laying around so close to CMH, then I might have to jump on them. Let me know.

Also, I'll send you a PM with the price of the blasting.

I REALLY like the color of the last charger you posted a picture of.

I have some bellhousings up in Detroit right now, have an ad in the mechanical parts for sale forum.

Thanks Matt! I'll take a look.

Ok, so I tried to put in the front full floor pan in on Tuesday. Anyone have any clues how to get it in? I tried getting it thru the door, thru the windsheild and even thru the back glass area...I'm stumped. I have no idea how I'm going to get it in. I hope I don't have to come up from the floor. That would require me to remove the torsion crossbar and floor supports.

Signed,
Clueless

Side note: All the trim is now finished in the basement...now I just have a 1 hour punch out job and we'll be ready to move stuff down.

i've never put in a full floor pan, but couldn't you slide the back end in first at an angle and then as you get more of it inside then turn it so it goes to lay where you want it on the inside rails and crossmember? One ?,is your steering column out?

just had a thought that i hope you don't have to cut it in half cause than would defeat the purpose of buying a full pan.

If need be Capt, Try to contact 521 restorations, I called Year One once and they do nothing but sell parts but always helpful when asking on info putting in parts, I always liked the idea of them selling just parts but do have info on putting parts into the cars.. Ive heard from a number of others remarking on how well they are to deal with. I know maybe its a bit hard being you may have never bought parts from them but if there as easy to get along with as been said maybe they could tell you if there is a way without all the hassle. Only a suggestion i to would hate to see you have to cut it and go that route.. Great work your doing! Good luck.

Yes, the column is out of the car...Let me try this method first, then I'll start making phone calls.

Picked up a couple passenger fenders last night, some airgrabber boxes and an aircleaner base and lid. I actually got 3 fenders that I hope I can piece together good parts from all 3....we'll see how that goes. Thanks Brad!

Capt. I did the same thing, bought the one piece floor pan. Had to cut mine because its a post car. I tried everything to get mine in, bottom, twist, bend, thru the front, I could not do it. I can send you a pic of where i cut mine, or just tell ya, i cut it at the front support crossmember. I cut mine in the middle from door to door so i could get good welds on both sides of the crossmember. Then welded where i had cut it. Let me know if you need a pic to understand what im trying to say. It stinks to pay the price for a full floor and then realize that the 2 piece would have been alot cheaper (including shipping) and easier to deal with. :icon_hang:

There is the pic of the front crossmember, i cut mine in the center of that from door to door. Then welded on each edge of the crossmember then welded the two pieces back together again (where i cut it). I hope that helps. The bad thing for me was, I ordered 2 halves for the 70 that you see on the other side of the 69 and the one piece for the 69. I already installed the 2 piece in the 70 before i tried to get the one piece in the 69. Otherwise it would have been done the other way around. Frusterating, i know! All i can do now is laugh about it. Good luck.

My stomach is turning thinking about cutting this floor up....I'm going to go throw up now.

:crybaby2::crybaby2:

Agreed Capt! I had a hard time as well, I almost ordered two more halves and sold the one piece. Its hard to do. You might me able to get it in from the bottom if you cut everything out (seat supports), but i wouldnt recomend cutting out that front brace. Thats why I had to bite the bullet and cut the new one piece floor. Ask Prop or some of the other guys before you cut it. Just letting you know thats what i had to do and I knew there was no way i was going to cut the post out either.

A friend of mine just had one put in a Superbee post car. I know he can weld so this might explain why he paid the body guy to do it instead of doing it himself. I sent an email to see if he knew what the trick was to getting it in. Will report back what I find out.

Awesome! Thank you so much..

Matt also sent me a PM telling me to try the door again....I'm going to give that a try tomorrow.

The fellow I mentioned replied and said his definitely went in as one piece but he doesn't know how the body guy did it. He said he'd try to remember to ask when he picks the car up. If I don't hear back soon I'll call the guy myself later this week, I need to try to hire him to do some work anyway.

It's probably like installing the glove box liner with the dash in place, there's only one way it works and once you find that way it'll go right in. I had the same situation trying to put jambs in with the quarters on the car. It took a while to figure it out but eventually I did.

Are you trying to put it in alone or do you have a helper? It might be good to have a second set of hands since it's so big and maybe a 3rd set of eyes to better figure out what it gets hung up on and how to turn it to get around things and in the hole.

Well, I think I'm going to need another set of hands. I tried to get that floor in, but I can't do it alone. However, I did take some measurements and it shoud fit through the door. In the meantime, I've done some other chores. I did some grinding on the frame rails under the floor area.

I also bought a hood with the airgrabber boxes from Brad (68bee70rr). I have a brand new hood from AMD and since this was a N96 car, I was missing the boxes. So, I spent a couple hours drilling out / popping rivets. I also took the inserts out. I have a set of inserts but they were the non-airgrabber varity and didn't have the red mesh screens.

Here is a picture with the boxes out. Look at that line where the inserts attatch...does that look like a factory cut? The line is all jagged and I don't see the support crossmembers between the 2 sides like on the repops from AMD.

Also got a bad section of the firewall cut out. I need to get this piece corrected before the floor goes in. This is near the kick panel on the passenger side. It would be toward the passenger right foot. I got a local guy lined up to try to make me a reproduction piece. I kept my old quarters that I cut out. There was still a bunch of good metal on those quarters. So, I cleaned up a piece of metal and put some weld thru primer on it for the fabricator.

IMG_1098.jpg

At any rate, I guess it's not time critical to get the floor in right away until I get this piece back from the fabricator. He's only charging my $30 for this test piece. :headbang: If I like the way it fits, I'll take him more work.

BINGO!!!!!

I just had to try it again. This time, a neighbor saw me struggling and gave me hand! (Just what I was hoping for) With 2 of us, we got it in place in 3 minutes.....IN ONE PIECE! :headbang::headbang::headbang: I still have some small alignment issues to take care of before I mark the bottom area for drilling. Then I get to pull it out and do it all again. :)

Thanks to DetMatt, Prop, b-body-bob, 68bee70rr for all the help! What a great community this place is.
