1969 Road Runner preservation

In my opinion original is the only way to go! Beautiful 69 RR, even the vinyl top seems to be in good shape.
More picture please.

First project was removing the original fuel tank. It appears to have a couple of gallons of fuel and 5 gallons of something else I’m not sure of, but it was really stinking up my garage;-) I’m hopeful that I’ll be able to clean it and reuse it possibly only changing the sending unit??
Thanks
Pat

Just buy a new one. Spectra tank at RockAuto about $150.00. Made in Canada. Get it before tariffs put the price up. LOL

Very nice bird i lived in that area westminster md and raced at capitol, 75 -80 and cecil those were great days of racing. I was also wondering about the time slips and what mods he did. send some pics during the process wonder if he did any street racing in certain areas a friend of mind had the same year and green in the same color called "the bot fly". Looking foward to seeing it finish.:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Not a great pic but the only one I have of me racing capital raceway 1983. Sorry Mopar guys, I’m the one in the right lane with the 66 GTO;-)

Daughter of the owner says she thinks she has more pictures and possibly a few of the car at the track. Hope to get them soon.
Thanks
Pat

This is the coolest find I have seen in quite awhile.

As cool as the car itself is, the story and back-in-the-day modifications doubles it. I really appreciate that you are going to work to preserve it rather than blow it all apart for a restoration and lose all that history. Put back to how it was back then, along with the story, and it will make this car really special.

I've got to say... I have never seen anyone put fenderwell headers on a B body. Were you able to secure those with the rest of the car?

Unfortunately, I do not have the headers however we did find part of the inner fender well cut outs that he saved.;-) I haven’t decided yet if I’m going to preserve this car as a day one or day two car??
Thanks
Pat

Awesome Road Runner, and even better story!
You are a very lucky man indeed!
I think I would leave it as a day 2 car, to preserve it's history... good luck with it, keep posting pics too!

I would leave it as is as much as possible. The inner fenders would be the worst dilemma for sure. I think they would bug me too much to not address, probably try to make the fresh paint required on them to look old though.

That’s my biggest problem, and it’s not like they did a great job of cutting them out:-(
I will go ahead and keep as much of the original inner fender well and butt weld that section back in and try to paint to match the vintage of the rest of the engine bay.
Pat

Just weld them up and put regular headers on it . Racing back then seen very few fender weld headers mostly modified rides, the engine looks much better without being cut up. Keep the pics coming.
