1969 Road Runner preservation

A few before, and after pictures of the door jam. I’m looking for suggestions on how to preserve the old Service stickers? They are hard to read now. The top sticker is showing 27,883 miles on 7/8/71 and the bottom sticker is showing 29,457 on 10/27/72.
He put a lot of miles on the car in the first two years and then slow down. Clearly switching to a more cost efficient car with the gas crunch of the early 70s.

They look pretty close to falling off. If you get them all the way off without damage I bet you could get them moist and press them flat (maybe sandwiched in tin foil). After flattened, spray adhesive on the backs before reapplying.

If they’re still stuck on in places, heat will sometimes be enough to soften the old adhesive.
 
I'm going to go way out on a limb, can you have reproductions' made ?, take good pix and get a shop to make them?, sure it might cost, but you get a vinyl sticker that will last, just a thought

They are very delicate, you can see where part of it has already ripped where I tried to remove it. I need to find a donor sticker to do some testing. I’m thinking that I could tape it off and spray it with a mat clear to help preserve and strengthen the paper??

That would definitely be the way to go with a full restoration, but I’m trying not to take anything off this car and keep it as original as possible so preserving the existing sticker is what I’m trying to come up with.

I would not put any tape on those, when you peel it off it will likely take chunks off. I would leave em be and work around them. I think the door looks great as is!

Yes agree, I would tape around them so not get the mat clear over spray on the green paint. I still need to test the mat clear on the paper.

Rebuild the original alternator and starter for the RR. He was great to work with and send me progress reports with pictures along the way. Very cool!

Awesome car and I really appreciate your approach to preserving it. This is the kinda car that I will always gravitate towards at any show. Restored cars are nice but these are a whole different level as far as I'm concerned. Many times, it takes way more effort and patience to preserve vs restore, atleast for me. I totally dig it!!!! and wish I had it!!!

I feel the same about Survivor cars. They are definitely the rarest and I love the stories that come with original unrestored cars.

Finding them is hard enough, acquiring them can be the most difficult part. It’s hard for owners/family to sell the memories.

Stainless gas tank. Your judgment call depending condition.
Safety first. My opinion is the car has modification already. Why not? And I've had bad experience with repo galvanized tanks.
Stainless lines from Inline tube. Do it only once.
I was successful in preserving a fuel tank out of a 1934 Chevy and I’m going to give this one a try, fingers crossed:)

Without a doubt they are the hardest and most rewarding cars to be part of. I'm always on the hunt for them. I'm working on a 59k mile sunroof GTX currently, I just started a thread on it as I start to go thru it, take a look if youre interested, in in the owners project forum also. I wish the paint was in the same condition as yours but I'm hoping I can get it "close" only with more patina. So glad to see others putting in the effort to keep them as original as possible
