1970 Charger Registry

A significant milestone!

Personally I think it's CHIGGINSHIT that someone who's never contributed anything besides promoting his own competing site is allowed to keep posting this stuff here...just my opinion of course...

Disagree

How is the forum going?
I heard it is as dead as MySpace.com over there.
BIG surprise. I wonder why. A few years back, it was slow but there was SOME activity.

Infinitely better than the Dodge Charger Registries for the 1968 and 1969 model years. :p

if 5100 cars register, but no one is there to see them......... are they really registered?

I've been a member there for many years and found it extremely helpful following other members' restoration threads, and documenting in great detail my own. Unlike some members though, I made sure every picture I took was uploaded directly to the site and not hosted by some garbage host like ImageShack or Photobucket...when those services crapped out, literally millions of topics on forums everywhere were rendered almost completely useless, full of broken-image placeholders.

My Charger resto was in hiatus for several years but now getting back into action. I unfortunately found that, as Don said earlier, most of the members already finished their projects and there was relatively little forum activity...or they moved to the dreaded Facebook, which I will never join because of all the hacks and compromises and advertising and invasion of privacy it's known for, and because I'm an I.T. manager and know better. Asking questions in the forum nowadays doesn't get much response, unfortunately. The reason I joined here is because I will continue to need advice and ACTIVITY. It's what makes a forum alive.

Lastly, I think the decision to make people register on the site just to access and see the forums is ill-advised. The vast majority of people who want to view forum topics there are NOT 1970 Charger owners, but everyday internet surfers. Preventing them from viewing the topics unless they register is not going to bode well for 1970chargerregistry.com, I'm afraid. I have nothing against that site or Don, I am a fan of both and appreciate what he's doing with the registration numbers, and I'll continue to upload pics and forum posts as my resto progresses, but I'll be doing more of that here, from now on, just because there's an audience.

From the home page:

Established in 2001, and based in Ontario Canada, the 1970 Dodge Charger Registry is here to help document as many 1970 Dodge Chargers as possible. Those that are still in existence, and those gone to the great car graveyard. The registry is free and open to all 1970 Dodge Chargers in any condition. We have a history page, production numbers, spec pages, option codes, pictures and even a message board. We also have a Fender Tag decoder, as well as Broadcast Sheet decoders for all 3 models! If it's 1970 Charger related, you will find it here. We are the definitive home for all 1970 Dodge Charger owners and fans.

From its inception in 2001 the goal of the 1970 Dodge Charger Registry was to gather and provide fact based data for other owners and enthusiasts rather than relying on generic Mopar decoders. The decoders and data provided on this site are based on actual data from 1970 Dodge Chargers built exclusively at the St. Louis Assembly Plant. If new data is identified the decoders and other public data files are updated accordingly. As more cars are added, the data gets deeper and richer to be able to support all 1970 Dodge Charger owners.

Another goal was to provide a central repository of documentation to facilitate reuniting found documentation with the car they belong to. Over the years I have been pleased to reunite documentation or history with numerous cars as they become registered. I do not charge any fee for this and typically pay for the postage. I do not believe in holding any item or information hostage to generate a ransom.

The protection and privacy of registered VINS and owners personal information is paramount which is why the actual database is not made public. However, I welcome any questions or requests for me to check the database for you by simply sending me an email at [email protected]. However, please note that if you have a 1970 Dodge Charger there is a natural expectation that your car is registered to support the cause. Technical questions should be posted on the message board. Here are a few of the more common questions I already receive:

- Of all the cars registered, how many have same options as mine?

- I am looking at buying a 70 Charger do you have any info on the car?

- I am looking for a car we used to own, any chance it is still around and registered?

General statistics on the Registry database are published in the Pictures - Main Gallery.

This site is always having content added, so check back often.
