Hello I'm new to this site and need some information from all of you experienced Mopar guys.....I'm looking at a 1970 Dodge Charger 500 with a matching numbers 383 in her. Overall the car is in average condition it needs headliner replaced, small crack in dash, and the tac is not working.....The outside the door has a small chip in it and little bubbling around fenders and the flip away lights is not working.....Now under the hood the A/C compressor is gone and a small oil leak/smoke from the valve cover (I think gasket bad) The car drives well and shifts good............MY question is what do you think the value of the car is worth paying for it?

Go get a magnet, and re visit the car..I would be surprised if it is not full of bondo. ;)

If you cannot get a magnet to stick on the critical rust areas, you have plenty of bargaining room..As the price should plummet accordingly.

x2! Also people selling cars always like to shrug off rust as "just a little bubbling." In my opinion there's no such thing, any bubbling is usually a sign of a lot of underlying rust problems or at the very least, a lot of "unknowns."

Also just in case you didn't know, the 500 option was basically just a trim level on Chargers in 1970 and a lot less rare than '69 Charger 500's. I just say this cause I know of a few people that have paid outrageous prices for a '70 500 thinking it's "ultra rare."

In general it doesn't sound too bad, the dash pad, headlight motors, etc can all be fixed but I can't really give an opinion on value without seeing some pics of the car :shruggy: if you have any, post em up!

I have to agree with Mr.SpeedFreak, the '500' is a trim level. Sure it is a HIGH trim level for that car, but def. not as rare as say an R/T might be. I would guess in the vicinity of 8 - 10,000 US..It's so hard to say without photos. honestly.

These guys are correct, no such thing as "just bubbling"
its not going to buff out, the reason it's bubbling is because rust has started eating its way from the inside -> out, so panel (patch) replacement WILL be necessary.
theres a BIG value difference between the 69 and 70 500's, 69's are the 500's to have.
dont get me wrong it sounds like this 70 should be a good driver project, but be critical next time you look at it.
hows the trunk pan and floor pans? Pull the carpet up!
hows the frame? Get up under her and visually inspect.
hows the metal around the rear window?
how are the inner fenders? Dig around the hood hinges.
i can't give you a value without this kind of info.
all in all it sounds like it has potential, sounds like some minor details for the headlight motors, dash, VC gaskets etc.
whats the asking price?

Was asking 26,500 I talked him down to 20,000 cash....here are some pictures of it 1.jpg2.jpg3.jpg4.jpg5.jpg7.jpg

Think 20k is too much for it?

Quarter behind wheel on driver's side looks a little funny.

IMHFO market is now in the neighborhood of $15,500-$17,500 a #3 car in a #5 being $2500 -#1 being $37k, would be more inline, but it's really hard to tell buy the photos, but also $20k isn't a completely crazy price either on the outer edges of W-I W, as long as it's not being misrepresented or hidden problems, these cars are & can be very expensive to get parts for &/or fix, especially if you don't know how or have the tools to do it yourself... Good luck either way & have fun that's what it's all about

Looks like it might be a poorly installed quarter or just a poor quality quarter that was installed.

Looks too "fat", and the lower line looks forced to a different end point.

I'd be lookin' REAL close at everything about those quarters before they got my 20K.

No heater hoses scares me on a 20K car, too.
