1970 Coronet R/T Project (Dasfusca's Car)

Thanks. It's nice to be missed. I had my ankle reconstructed and then two projects distracted me. After I get these rear quarters done, It will be smooth sailing on this car.
I moved a LIL further on mine also...had a REAL metal fab n welder friend put a new rear crossmember, extensions & 4 speed hump in mine...last pic shows the rust behind the bumper plate. Sand packed in and acted like a sponge

Still working on the final fit. The outer wheel well had to be worked a bit. Got the side scoop fitted. I had to elongate the holes a bit. I’ll weld up the wrong parts later.

When we replaced the filler panel, we had to weld in the right side trunk lip along the inside of the quarter and it did not line up. I decided to cut them loose again and reweld. it's easy to line things up with no quarters and a friend holding them in place on the top side while you weld with the trunk closed. I think it came out a lot better.

"Just read your entire thread...Your doing an awesome job.... Getting close.... Cruising in the spring?"

Thanks. When I started this thread, I had no idea it would take so long to finish this car. I have been posting my progress here going on 13 years in January. I’ve been overwhelmed and stalled a few time. I even drug it along when we moved. Other projects have bumped in line but the Coronet has always been patiently waiting. I hope I can finish it soon. I am the one that cut her apart and I hope I am the one that finishes her the way I have dreamed she be.

I've been watching you do this and am amazed with the skill you have shown with the metal placement and welding. There is no way I could have done what you have done with these results. Thats why I HAD to start with the 440 from AZ I have...

The fender is now a permanent part of the car. I am in the process of butt welding the top and sides. I used 3m panel bond for the wheel arch and extension to eliminate future corrosion from the welds. We used plenty of clamps and covered them with plastic wrap so they didn't stick to the car. We glued the entire bottom at once. One set of tubes was needed to do the bottom of one quarter. Paint and rust had to be completely ground off. We also had to run the heater for a few days to keep the temp of the garage high enough for a quicker strong cure. Here is the glueing.

Here is the Welding part. I went old school and used a MOPAR MUSCLE magazine article form July 2005 as my guide. I did things a little different since I panel Bonded the bottom of the panel. I did not drill and set ALL the clecos until I was done the glueing in case there was a shift. I am glad I did because the ends were 1/16 off and there would have been a bulge. I still have HOURS of welding to do but here is the start. Then on to the other side.
