1970 Plymouth Sport Fury GT V Code 440-6 Barn Find

There was one for sale at the Seattle mopar show back in I wanna say like 2000 ish, the show was at the Bellevue college if I remember correctly. Needed a full resto and I think it was around $7500. Would have been a cool car but $7500 then to me might as well have been $750,000

I had a Sport Fury GT back in 2019 (not a V code though). Cool car, pretty rare - only 666 built.

So YOU were the one who had that car, I was trying to remember who had it. That was a stunning car once it was restored, I loved it (and still do!!) I remember it was in the official Mopar calendar a few years ago.

My friend, Dave's, V-code from Ontario. He has had it at MCACN a couple of times. Rtescued from a wrecking yard in Buffalo.

Your torturing me!! the color… the rarity… the story, urgh

I absolutely LOVE Dave’s car, and Dave as a person. I know a few friends who know him too, he’s a really good guy. I’ll never forget when I saw that car on my first ever trip to the Carlisle Mopar show in 2016 when it was in the building display, then when he let me sit in it a few years later.

I have known Dave for almost 40 years and agree he is a great guy. He has always been very generous with his time and knowledge. He ran his own repair shop for many years and was known to be honest and reliable. He has been the president and sparkplug of our local Mopar club for many years.

IIRC there was an original white one here. One owner car that went south of the border about 20 years ago. He had passed on, family sold it. It had the radio microphone in it.

Interesting option. But probably not that impressive acceleration. I imagine a built 383 road runner 4 speed would take it. As well as a 340 A body. “No replacement for displacement”… except less weight.

Thanks for posting the video, going to be a fun car to restore. Dan Corley had three of the cars at one point, two black cars and a yellow one. One of the black cars is owned by a friend and stored here in a building he rents from me, other black car is in New York and the yellow car is in the midwest somewhere. 13 known V-Code VIN's now, 10 known cars, only 4 have the original engine.

Yes but that one was a 4bbl car.

My 70 sport fury with manual lock/windows ac, 383/727 weighed 4000lbs. Not that much heavier than a b body with some options. Heavier than a stripped down a12 car, sure.

I bet about 500 lbs. heavier. I had a bunch of ‘68-‘70 C and D bodies back in the 80’s. Newport, Fury, New Yorker, and Imperial. None of them really impressed me with their acceleration. The power just seemed adequate. My Six Pack 3.54 4 speed Charger weighed about 4000lbs. and by ‘88 the 5.0’s were quicker. I’m not sure who the customer would have been for those 6 bbl. Furys. AC wasn’t available, and every one of the C bodies I had and saw in the junkyards had AC up here in the northeast.

Dave actually raced his V-code Sport Fury last summer at our club car show/race day, and waded through the competition to win his class. The car was running low 14's. Dave is an experienced racer and competent tuner. It must have been disheartening to be beat by such a big car.
