1970 Road Runner I bought turns out to be a true 440 six pack!

So I picked up this race car last weekend. It's a nice car and I was real excited to get it. So after running the VIN and looking at old pictures with the previous owner, it turns out this was a true 440 six pack, air grabber road runner. I think its been cut up a little too much to take back to stock, its back halfed with a full cage, no interior, and not much of the super expensive original parts are left on the car. It's a shame this car was turned into a race car, but it was done back when cars like this had very little value, and the previous owner got many many years of enjoyment taking the car to the track. I know its not a crazy good barn find or survivor car, but I do have a title and just had to share my excitement. I love hearing stories like this and got to experience it for myself finally!

Sounds to me that the car has a lot of track history. That can be real neat too. Trace the history on the previous owners and drivers. There might be a "track name" for the car somewhere in it's life of racing. Cool story! Have fun!
 
Anyone can restore one and they all look alike when they're done............ keep it a drag car and flog it regularly!!

Very cool, I would leave it "as is" {little changes to fit your taste & needs}, keep it a Race car or street/strip & go have some fun... anymore photos of the car now you have it ??
 
This is it for now. The trailer pic is from this last Sunday. I felt like I was driving off with a member of the guys family. I will get her cleaned up and make my changes, mainly touch up the battle scars on the paint, maybe change the hood, remove stickers, larger seat I can fit in, quick release steering wheel, and headlights. My thoughts are race the car and have some fun, while gathering parts to make it a pro-street. I'll post up more pics after I get the initial changes done. I wish y'all could see just how excited I am to own this car!

What combo does it have in her ?? any details, engine, trans, suspension, etc... what did you pay ?? Just curious, that's if you want to tell us anyway...

For suspension its a back half car, the chassis is setup to run a four link, but he never got that far. Still running a ladder bar. The front suspension is mostly stock but does have disc brakes. Lots of safety equipment, driveshaft loops, and transmission has a blanket. Dana 60, 4.56 gears with a spool. The motor is a 440, iron heads (he gave me what was left of the aluminum heads after the last motor puked an exhaust valve through the header onto the ground at the starting line), all forged motor, single plane intake, a monstrosity of a carburetor, msd 7AL using a crank trigger for ignition, a very large and healthy solid lift cam, and a nice aluminum radiator to keep it all cool. The iron heads slowed the car by 3 tenths. Still running a 727 with a reverse manual valve body, ratcheting shifter with shiftnoid, and 5,000 stall converter. Has good tires and good battery. Basically, just fill the fuel cell and go race!

As far as price, I would rather not say. Lets just say when I heard the price over the phone I got in the truck immediately, hooked up the trailer, and drove 5 hours one way to go get the car! It was a killer deal, and the previous owner was a super nice guy and very helpful. I always try to bargain for a better deal but this time I paid asking price without hesitation. He threw in all the tools and spare parts required to race the car, including an extra fully built transmission. Best car buying experience I have ever had.

Wow that's an awesome score! Personally I wouldn't waste a minute worrying about it not being put back to stock, looks like the car already has a much more exciting history of its own.

My Charger is a true R/T-SE and like your car won't be put back to stock, but it's still cool knowing you have "the real deal" whether it's factory-correct or not. I say make it your own and drive the hell out of it!
 
Awesome score and a cool looking car - keep it the way it is, except for a few changes to make it more streetable. :)
 
may be a chevy inspired scoop, but it is more functional and better pefroming scoop than any other scoop, i do agree it does not look right on the roadrunner though

Very nice score,Thats a nice feeling, a similar thing happened to me recently , Mine was setup for the track i am detuning itr now.
