1970 Satellite to RR restomod build

Rust in the trunk extensions

Yup, default for these cars. Lower quarters, trunk floor/extensions and rear window are just about 100% givens. Then rockers and interior floor usually need attention as well, as well as lower front fenders.

...but it is all worth it in the end. What I really nice is most of the metal for these cars is reproduced. That makes repairing them much cheaper (note I did NOT say cheap!).

floors ended up being good, just the window, quarters, and trunk extensions.

What do you guys think about mini-tubbing it while it is all apart. I am getting new quarters and trunk extensions anyways

Speaking of stuff I forgot: Likely the outer wheel housings will need some attention. Your car seems to be in pretty good shape, so you might be OK.

You can fit a 275 aspect tire in there easily, and a 295 if you really want to live with a tight fit. If you really want to go bigger, now would be the time to do it, but that might also require offset springs, etc. I would suggest you think about your budget and what you want the finished car to be, and let that be your guide...

If that is what you want, this would be the time if you can do it, speaking of a budget and everything involved..

Shop should have a quote to do it by the end of the week. With spring hangers relocated whats the widest tire most get away with before it starts to hit ?

once you put those new quarters on the car looks so much better!

Any opinions on subframe connectors? Torque boxes?

just my opinion you need the subframe connectors, i got mine from us car tool. mine fit pretty nice, you have to a little fabbing but not bad. after all your practice i will bring my 70 by so you can weld mine together...lmao

I would do both torque boxes & connectors from US Car tool. also You could dehump your outer wheelwells if it's not to late. will allow wider tires and lower stance. See US Car tool wheel tubs in racers hang out.

Some of us have done a mod to the rear outer wheel houses. It's easy to do while you have the 1/4 skins off. Gives you more room for big/tall tires. And like 69GTX said US Car Tool sells a kit or you can DIY like I did... Oh and, 70 RRs are cool! Good work!

I am going to do the subframe connectors and torque boxes when the engine is back in the car

So what do I need to do for the wheel combination I have chosen

18x9.5 with 5.5 backspace on 295/35/18 tires with the rear lowered at least 2" with lowering springs

Leaf spring relocation ? minitub? Dehump?

I'm running 19" X 10"s with 5" backspacing (285/35/19) and did nothing but the dehump. 295s would fit on mine but with your 5.5 backspacing it will be tight to the inner well, a set of 1/2" spacers will fix it. You could tub it but moving the wheels out would probably look better than having them sucked in.
