Good morning:

Replacing the ancient trunk weather strip in my 1971 RT. Not sure if the weather strip along the side goes one way or the other. In picture 1, it is laying flat and should work fine. In picture 2 the weather strip is tall and will likely work, too. I think picture 1 is the right way but not sure. Can you help me confirm which way is correct before I put some glue on?

Picture 3 is along the bottom edge. I think it is right.

Thanks for the help!

I could be wrong here but I think pic 1 is correct.

I am about to put the weather strip on my 71 was well so this is good timing. How do you intend to attach it? If I may offer a suggestion (one I have used many times and am going to use again now, get some 3M double sided tape, apply it to the bottom of the WS and then you can control how you put it down plus you do not have any excess glue or mess to deal with.

Permatex Weather Strip Adhesive. It's yellow just like factory and just like contact cement. Coat both sides, let sit 10 minutes and stick! Which ever direction you work best, do 1/2 the lower trunk edge to the corner... STICK... do the corner.. Stick.. do a side.. STICK. You get the idea!

ZERO tape required nor 100 clothes pins!

Thanks to both of you--excellent suggestions. The weather is great today in Fresno and let the project begin!

Since I don't do "factory" I find the 3M technique exceptionally useful, but if you do use the glue @dadsbee is spot on. Let that glue tack up and off you go.

My paint shop "did me a favour" and glued my NOS weather strip into the Bee trunk with 3M weatherstrip glue. UPSIDE DOWN ffs. It was like a month later when I found this out and I grabbed one end and pulled it completely off. Glad it came off easy without even tearing it, but they cost me some good $$'s on that one as I couldn't clean the goo off the rubber, then couldn't find another NOS one.

Tape sounds like a good idea as well..

Yeah that glue option can be a pain which is why I don't like it or do it. If I were restoring a car or had a survivor or something I would do the glue thing but for everything else its the tape. It sticks REALLY well to the rubber but you can (with caution) remove it from the metal. The thing I like the most about it is the control, you can peel off small sections of the backing and position the WS and then continue.
