1971 Dodge Charger.....it IS possible to be a virgin again!

I must say, after owning nearly a dozen 68-70 dodge chargers, I have FINALLY scored my very first 71 Charger! I will freely admit, it's felt like that special "first-time" experience all of us get to enjoy only once!!

Why I held off getting one of these sooner is beyond me!!
These cars are just straight-up cool looking and simple, sit right, have super comfy seats, spew a very heavy bad-*** Nascar vibe and feel decades newer than a 70!

Not sure the 68-70 chargers are all "that" anymore after spending time with this 71, the 68-70's have certainly earned their place, but the 71-74's are clearly overlooked and deserve their day in the sun!!
Chrysler knew what they were doing, now I know it too!!

That's what I have been telling everyone I got that 70 charger drove it wasn't very impressed compared to my 71-74 cars so I traded it for a super nice 72 charger

If you like the 71, try a 73 or 74. The 73/74 models are not highly respected like the earlier years, I think mainly because the muscle car era was over by then, but they ride and handle so nice.

I had a '71 Charger and wish I'd kept it. In my opinion they have the most "flashy" options available of any year..... Super Bee, air grabber, rear wing, TONS of stripe options, 440+6/Hemi. I think I still have my owner's manual. You could get /6, 318, 340, 383 low-perf (2bbl?), 383 HP, 440, 440+6, Hemi. You just don't see that many engine options in the cars of today. Plus I like the body style. I "think" they have the 2nd or 3rd lowest drag coefficient of the old Mopars

I have owned more than 100 second gen Chargers,and I'm sorry boys but they are all that! That said I will say I have grown to like the third gens as well. I currently have 5 third gen Chargers,3 71s and 2 73s and a 71 Satellite.

May I add a bit of insight for what little it's worth. Having worked on these cars back in the day, the 71-up b-bodies were, yes, better than the earlier cars in every way. Except when the emissions/de-compression engines were introduced, they slowly became out of favor compared to the prior high horsepower cars. Braking & handling were better, and aerodynamically were better. Just ask Richard.

I still have my top banana yellow 70 Charger R/T SE that I have owned since 1981. It is a 440 4 speed dana car,with a black top interior,tailstripe and go wing. It has 15 inch rallye wheels,painted racing mirrors,and a big honkin Hurst pistol grip shifter protruding from the console. That one lives up to the hype very well,especially since I added the 472 Hemi engine to it!
