You could easily build a tube frame and add the
kit body of your choice. This would allow for
components added to be an integral part of the
design. A lighter body would also help with
extending the operational range. Coil over springs
and shocks, 4 wheel disc.
The transition from gas to elec ain't gonna
happen overnight. I'd wait for technologies and
infrastructure to improve before attempting
this endeavour. But I digress....it's your $$$.
What you build now, is going to be literally
a pieced together pile of parts in 15-20 years.
Current technologies just aren't where they need
to be just yet.
My 46 years as a mechanical engineer are offering
this kind advice.
The big three at tis point, are investing roughly
20% of their total new vehicle production as EV's.
That should tell you something. I'd build your
classic for what it is.....American Muscle.
Once done, sell it (if not too attached) to finance
your EV pursuits.
