I'm Back!
Hey everyone! Wow, I can't believe it's been almost a year and a half since I've been on this site! I just started working at my new job when I left, and the past year has been quite eventful for me. But now I'm back, and I've been paying attention to the car again, and have REALLY started to plan things out for it!
I have a vision for this car, and realize I will end up putting a lot of time and money into it. But, this is the car I want to fix up, and I can't wait to get started! I will be designing it as a pro-touring car that will be used as my daily driver. Where I live, the winters are very mild, and I can drive the car pretty much year round. The bottom line of this project is that everything will be custom, and I have no need or desire to keep things original.
I'm not the most mechanically inclined person, so I have been doing a lot of research over the past year, and hope to learn much along the way. Here is what I know so far:
It will have a Gen III Hemi with EFI. I haven't decided on which particular engine yet, but I would really like to run the 6.4L 392. I haven't decided on an engine management system yet either, but I am leaning towards the Fast XFI. Unless of course it's more practical for me to run a factory or other setup depending on my needs. I'm not looking for extreme power, just a very reliable, fuel efficient, yet fun engine.
I am still figuring out whether I will go with a 6 speed manual transmission, or attempt to utilize the factory 5 speed automatic. I have been reading a lot about speed sensors, and will need to dig into this further to see what this means for me and how I will make things work with the gauges I want to use. I plan to go with the Dakota Digital VHX series of gauges, specifically the dual round pair.
I plan to upgrade to a 4 wheel disk brake system with rack and pinion steering. I will likely be replacing the steering column with one from Flaming River or XV motorsports as I will be going with a floor shift regardless of using an automatic or a manual transmission. I will be replacing the front bench seat with two buckets so I can install a console with a floor shifter. Also, I will be going with the Digital Guard Dawg key-less ignition\entry system. The steering column I get will be floor shift with no key. I will need to figure out which particular column size will be the ideal replacement.
I want to upgrade to power windows\locks and have cruise control. (If I'm going automatic). I want air-conditioning and have been checking out the Vintage Air systems. Dakota Digital makes a really nice digital climate control module that interfaces with the Gen IV vintage air system. I would like to design a custom dash for the car, and give the interior a slightly modern feel. I am still pondering ideas and may seek out someone that can create some concept sketches for me.
As for the exterior, I plan to get rid of the white vinyl top, and the car itself will be black. The theme of the interior to match will be black and blue. I really like the look of the 75' Roadrunner tail-lights\bumper setup, and if possible I would like to use that as I find it to be a much cleaner look. It will have dual exhaust for sure. Once the majority of the car is completed, I will work on the stance and figure out with rims\tires I will be going with. (Long way off).
That's about all I can think of for now. It's 4 in the morning here and my brain has about shut off for the day. I won't be able to do a heck of a lot for awhile until I save up some money, but I have started to strip out some of the interior to see what I have to work with. I will post some pictures tomorrow. For now, I will leave you with 3 recent pictures I have taken of the car.
I really look forward to getting to know everyone here, asking questions (there will be lots), and listening to the great tips/advice I'm sure many of you will be able to provide.
Cheers!!
