FYI, on Wednesday NHRA announced a schedule change for the first four races of the 2023 Camping World season.
The 2023 season will open with the Gatornationals in Florida.
The first four races of the 2023 season are:
* March 9-12 Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals
* March 24-26 NHRA Arizona Nationals
* March 30-April 2 Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals
* April 14-16 NHRA Four-Wide Nationals at The Strip in Las Vegas
NHRA says this is not a permanent change to the traditional schedule, but is meant "to provide more efficient routing and travel plans for the race teams."
I always thought going all the way across the country to Gainesville
2nd or third race in many cases, depending on what year/s
(
many prior to Vegas even being there)
after a couple of races out west,
was sort of stupid
especially when a huge amount of teams were from Calif. org.
not based in INDY like today
just to have to drive all the way back to the middle
Texas in Dallas, Houston
or the western states/coast, Pheonix, later years Las Vegas etc.,
especially in the beginning of the season
IMO Westcoast swings Pomona, Bakersfield/Famosa March Meet (test),
Sonoma, Kent Wa. ect.
that should be the start of the NHRA Season
then Vegas , no more Pheonix anymore now,
maybe go to Morrison Co/Denver after that, if it's warm enough, no snow
then go to
Texas a couple of tracks Houston & Dallas,
then Kansas/Topeka, etc.
& then start to go east, south Atlanta, Gainesville
(
add Palm Beach to Test)
& then up the coast/toward NE,
East Coast swing, Concord/NC Richmond Englishtown Redding etc.
then to the midwest swing, Chicago Brainard Norwalk etc.
down to INDY/US Nats, finish up on the west coast, Vegas & Pomona
I know I didn't list them all either...
it's just for reference's sake
(
I'd like to have seen Bakersfield/Famosa or Palm Beach in the mix too,
not just a test --- we need another Arizona track now too)
then we wouldn't have had to make so damn many trips
back & forth
(
I know it cost me huge $$$, wear & tear & my time, time away from work,
or traveling several thousands of miles, in each direction)
IMO it would have made far more sense
I'd of done a lot more "points" races back east & in the midwest
& I'd just stayed out there, for the duration & had my parts shipped to the tracks
before coming back west
or maybe leave my stuff in someone's shop/I trust & fly back
if I had to be at work, which I usually did
I know a lot of it was traditional "dates" too
it had nothing to do with miles driven or weather,
which you'd think would be logical scheduling for races
stay west for the winter months (
Florida is rainy as **** still)
stay where the weather is nice 90%, not rain delayed or flooded
all the damn time too
thanks
@ocdart for sharing that
