I had 8 inch with 4.5 inch backspacing and 235/60/15 tires and the raised white letters just barely rubbed. Changed to 7 inch rims with the same tires and have plenty of clearance.
Running 8 inch rims will almost garauntee rubbing. Going to a 7 inch rim will let you bump up to a 255/60 x 15 with ample clearance. It's what I'm running on my `66 Belvedere II. Running 215/70 x 15 on 6 inch front rims. This reduces wear on front end components. Take a look at my photos.
