Hey guys looking for some pointers on why I'm having some trouble with my 273.

Sorry hit the wrong button....I have a 273, new fuel pump, new gas tank, new fuel filter. When I go to start it won't start unless I remove the air filter cover. Once running I put it back on and it gets to operating temp fine. I was driving it around locally and it seemed to start bogging down and then would stall. I am thinking maybe an air issue? What should I look for or try?

You could start with describing your engine combination and what the trouble is; this way the community might be able to offer some assistance.

or wrong gas cap, should be a vented cap

is the air cleaner hitting the choke butterfly or linkage at the top of the carb?

I'll check that, but I don't have to remove the full air filter assembly, just the lid.

Is your choke hooked up, if not is the flap moving freely. The flap my be closing when you accelerate.

Try running it with no air cleaner at all and see the results. It occurs to me, according to what you say, that the issue occurs when you tighten down the air cleaner top. Are you sure it's the right air cleaner housing. Perhaps the issue is with the air filter itself. This is most bizarre, the likes of which I've never heard of. There must be interference between the air cleaner housing and car some where, perhaps if it's "drop" style that's the problem.

As bizarre as it sounds, ONCE on a slant six car I was having that happen. The car wasn't running right.Lifted the lid, car purred.Filter LOOKED clean, Changed the filter, problem gone.Just a thought,,maybe?
