Does anyone have the specs for the 2nd design Purple 284-484 BB cam? The one that gives better idle quality for the street.

I have a "first gen" one in my 440 now and it idles just fine (800-850RPM).
Just a bit of rumpity rump:

Ed yours sounds great.
That original grind needs compression and stroke.
I have a original one in a low compression 400. It leaves a lot to be desired. I'm not sure if 114° LSA would help mine.

I'm thinking neither for an 8:1 engine. One has too much overlap, the other closes the intake valve too late.

They both close it too late. It was a bad choice for my engine, but...... It was $free.99. Maybe I should not have been so cheap?
I would not put a 114° lobe speration in anything I expected decent mid range out of.

I've this cam in my .030 over 9:1 440 (built around 25 years ago; I've owned about 10 years now) runs excellent. Decent idle, pulls strong, lots of torque, never seems to drop off. 906 heads, 727, slightly warmer than stock converter, 3:55s. Not sure which version it is but leaning toward the 114lsa as it's very streetable to drive. Pic from earlier this year. Sounds crisper now since I rebuilt the carbs, etc., but here's an older link of it running:

Back in the late 80’s I ended up building a few low buck re-ring type 400’s.
One got some 516 heads, a SD intake/650DP, and the 484-108 cam.
Modded the carb for 4 corner idle, redid the dist curve……. And sold it to a guy who put it in a 71 charger with headers, 4.10’s and a 10” converter.
Mid-13’s at 103-104 with slicks in decent air @3900 lbs.

Bumpity bump idle, but not horrible.
Of course, my tolerance for that type of thing was pretty high back then.

One thing is for sure, opinions vary greatly on what is good idle quality.

What was y'all's cams installed at? Years ago I built a 440 with the 108 484 for a guy's 69 Charger with a 4 speed and 3.55 gears. Installed the cam 4 degrees advanced and the guy loved it.
