2nd opinions please

one of the perks of working in the parts business for several years is the relationship i have been able to establish with many of the shops in my area. Not only do i know the good shops from the bad, i know who i can trust with my car. A friend of mine runs the best shop in my area and if he caught one of his mechanics doing anything like this to a customers car there would be hell to pay. Not only would he be fired, he would have a hell of a time getting work anywhere around this area. If you don't know the owner of the shop well. Do not leave your car there unattended. I'm truly sad about what happened to you.
x2 !!!!

man o man ....you would see me on the 10 o clock news

Wow, that is a sad story Charlie, hope the owner of the shop steps up to the plate for you.

Let us know how it goes.

I like having a 3000 rpm msd chip for service work, if in doubt.

I have seen some kids do this before, tire mounter types. I also tried to get him fired for it also, well someone got fired. He hot rodded the car and the valve cover was off the car. What a mess.

this is bullshit, sorry to hear man, THUS why i do all maintenance, tuning, aligning and repairs myself in my garage

Wow I am sorry to hear this. I had that happen once where 2 pushrods popped out and were bent. It was years ago in my old 383 with the MP .484 single bolt cam gear. What happened was the cam bolt backed out and the gear got loose and snapped the pin on the cam. I think what happened it that I always degree my cams and I think I forgot to go back and retorque the cam bolt and put a tad of locktite on it. Well I hope they step up to the plate and help you. Good luck with it. Ron

I had the bolt come loose on one in my RR back in the late 80s and it just quit running.

to be honest, the cam gear is about the only thing i didn't check and I'm doubting it to be the culprit this time

That is why I do all the work myself can't trust anybody!

This **** is about to get very ugly

Good luck, I hope all goes well for you, I'd keep on-top of the Manager/Owner of the place, I hope you get some kind of restitution/satisfaction...

I know it's been said by others, Never leave your car unattended with a strange Tech/Mechanic, keep an eye on them always, if they won't let you, then take it somewhere that will, especially when your dealing with a younger mechanic {I use that term Tech/Mechanic very loosely, more like parts replacers, in allot of these places}, I know all the younger guys aren't like that, but it's a far larger chance of a young guy doing this verses an older respected ASE Certified Tech/Mechanic....

I know I'd be pissed as hell, someone would pay one way or another, I'd get restitution for sure...
This kind of crap is a big part of why, I don't trust anyone to work on my cars, I'll buy books & tools to do it all myself, learn how to do it, no matter how long it takes, because it's cases just like this, but also sometime you have to do, what you have to do... Lessons learned

I normally don't trust my cars to others but I don't have the equipment for the alignment...yet. And if it wasn't for having to return to work so I didn't lose holiday pay, I would have waited there for it.

I have been dealing with the GM of the place and now have received a message from the owner and have a call scheduled with him tomorrow AM

:iamwithstupid: At-least they are talking with you, that's a good step, lets hope they make it all good too...
Like I said "sometimes you have to do, what you have to do"... sucks either way :angryfire:

I seen that episode too. I did look it up on Summit too, just couldn't justify the $300 then but today I can lol

Sorry to read your problems. To bad you couldn't have stayed to watch, you only have yourself to blame for that. I won't leave my vehicle unless I know it will be un drivable during that time. What was the mileage b4 and after you picked it up? I hope you have this info for yourself? As said, check with the neighbors to see if they have footage if they have any. Good Luck

No way . . . that is just wrong . . .

I think you need to inform them of your hourly rate, and keep track of your parts, because they can charge you an hourly rate to work on your car, you should be able to charge them in return for fixing the mess that one of their employees did to your car while it was in their possession - that's why they have to carry insurance !

If they're honest ( time will tell ) they will make things right, but record your hours just the same ! !

I think they have an employee that owes you an explanation and an apology . . . to say the least
( if they're man enough to admit their mistake )

Best of luck to you with this "ordeal" . . . sorry it happened.

i use the fasttrax aligner tool i think its only $150, works really well

I was thinking of making one myself too, looks pretty basic, sometimes it's just easier to buy something, that works well....
