I have a 70 roadrunner with rally dash and drive a lot, but avoid rain. I used the wipers today and was surprised by the speed of the middle position of the 3 position switch (way too fast). The fender tag says I should have 3 speed wipers but now I'm not sure if I have the original motor, switch or resistors because the speed is about 5 times what I would expect.

Also not sure what 3 speed wipers means really...is it high/low/intermittent? I took it for granted but now I'm curious. What should I look for. Tried a quick search and couldnt find much. Even if the motor is not original I'd like to try and slow it down where the middle setting is usable.

the three speed wiper switch has 4 positions off, low, med, high verses 2 speed off, low, high. how about some pics of the wiper motor? the three speed switch also has an external resistor attached to it.

That's a two speed wiper motor, how many positions does the switch have?

Well it's at least a 2-spd per the dash, just like my '68.

thanks, now I'm not sure what's causing the wiper speed to be too high. Any way to slow down the speed?

How many positions does the switch have? Unless some changed the switch out to a two speed you may have the original 3 speed switch with a two speed wiper motor. I see someone cut your air cleaner to clear the two speed wiper motor.
Just FYI all 69-70 air grabber cars had to have 3 speed wiper motors to clear the air cleaner. Also it's impossible to tell the difference between a 2 and 3 speed switch just by looking at a pic of it in the dash since the toggles are the same.

thank you bee. Yes great catch that is a 69 air grabber oval base for a 440-4bbl, the 1970 383 air grabber base is gone because the previous owner put a 1969 440 stroker in its place years ago, probably around 2000 or so. Im guessing he sold the 383 air cleaner and got the 69 to clear the hood with the RB installed. I swapped a 383 in a few years ago after I bought the car as a roller and the stroker block is now at the machine shop getting cleaned up.

so the rally dash has the same appearance for both 2 and 3 speed wipers? Any pics of a 3 speed switch installed in a rally dash?

That is really interesting. I have gotten very familiar with this car as I have worked on it but always more to learn. This is definitely an n96 car so by that rationale it has to have provision for 3 speed wiper switch. Or does it? Maybe the dash panel was changed. I have worked the dash harnesses and the dash appears original. I never thought about the wipers much except I knew they functioned, now its a mystery to track down. I'm going to take the switch out and see if it was modified.

its a 3 speed switch and original by the appearance. I will hunt for a motor

heres a pic of a three speed switch installed in my 69' bee. The same instrument bezel is used
no matter which switch is used.
