Hoping someone can clear some confusion on my part as to the compatibility of the wiper motor, switch, and harness in the car. For background I just bought the car and towed it home and the battery was hooked up and I drove it on and off the trailer, wipers seemed 'parked" in the proper position. Recently went out to start the car and the wipers came on even though the switch was off, strange and doesn't quite add up but that's what happened. I attempted to cycle the switch several time to no avail, I don't believe there was any variable, just one speed? I disconnected the wipers at the firewall harness, and a few days ago decided to get into the problem. I will list what I know and hopefully someone can point me in the right direction. I have spent hours on here and elsewhere and cannot seem to find the answer.

Here is what I have;

Motor, 2822962, my research says a 67-68 variable speed motor

Switch, 2770379, my research says 66 variable speed switch

Harness, 3 wire with the brown having a splice turning into two brown wires just below the clamp at the motor. One of them goes to the metal visible clocking cover and the other heads into the motor itself. I have read several times that the 3 wire harness only works on a 2 speed motor and that the variable speed uses the 4 wire harness that would have a green wire. I did verify that I in fact have continuity between the green wire at the switch and the empty space on my firewall harness. My inclination is to add a green wire to the harness, separate the brown wire splice and hook the green to the brown going into the motor. I hesitate because I cannot find a picture or diagram of the wiring inside the motor and I would hate to burn the motor up at $525 a pop. Adding to all of this, I found a motor, #2822962, same one I have on eBay at Norms speed shop that is supposed to be restored. It looks very nice and says it is a variable speed motor, however, it has a 3 wires at the firewall connector, to be clear the connector has 4 spaces but only using 3, and looks like it is wired like the one I have. Help!!!

Your switch should go from off to low speed with one click and any other speed is variable by continuing to rotate the knob clockwise. Your motor doesn't look like any of my 66-67's. The picture below is a 2 speed on my 67 Hemi car. I don't think your wiper motor is correct for your car. Some 66 parts are not interchangeable with 67-68 parts.
